Bruce Hooley - Biggest Idiot now back on the radio in Cleveland

I like Hooley. Doesn't mean I agree with everything he says. But the guy really is a Buckeye fan.

The kind of BS one reads on most Buckeye message boards (thank God for BP!) makes anything Hooley might ever say seem very tame. He throws a lot of outrageous comments out there just to stir the pot and get people to call in. That's what people with his job do. At least he's able to complete a grammatically correct sentence occasionally, something Torgerson has never done in his life. It's a good thing "the Torg" never had to take the Ohio school proficiency exams; he'd still be studying for the 4th grade one.

I will say I did meet him at the 2007 NC Game in New Orleans. I had the privilege of staying at the media hotel and endulging in the free food/booze there. Anyway, aside from having a sissy handshake, he was a pretty nice guy.

I will agree with much what has already been said - seems to have undying adulation for Thad and OSU hoops and is very hard on Tress/OSU Football.

Mentioned earlier, but before Hooley, who joined TheFan permanently in '05, they had Ian Fitzsimmons and Herbie. Herbie and Fitz were GREAT. Ian left in Oct '04 and moved to Salt Lake City, then from there headed home for Alabama, got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign and wound up doing prison time from an outstanding warrant for writing a bad check to a Chinese Restaurant when he lived there back in 1996, and after that moved to Dallas. I read he recently got canned from his job there.

The knock on Fitz was that he had the sense of humor of a 4th grader ... like a kid from South Park. From what I've read online it doesn't sound as if he's been a huge fan favorite at any of his stops since, but I think the Columbus audience really liked him. At least, I never heard many complaints about the afternoon show when he and Herbie showed up everyday like clockwork.

After Ian left, TheFan brought in Damon Bruce. Bruce worked there for two weeks during the height of the MoC-accusation fiasco, did an absolutely brilliant interview with ESPN's Tom Friend, where he ripped Friend up one side and down the other and damn near had Friend crying by the end of the interview, then Damon took off a week of work because he was sick. Apparently, you don't get a week of PTO at 1460 if you've only been there for two weeks, so he got canned.

Ricordati took over the show in the interim with Hooley guesting, then in 2005 Hooley got the gig full time. I listened for about a month, and haven't listened to the station since. I would rather listen to the air blowing out of my car's A/C than listen to Hooley. He is fucking awful. Ricordati is even worse.

great post and spot on. i was a daily listener during the ian "fat"simmons days. loved his morning and then afternoon shows

Thad comes on the show and actually answers his questions. Tressel does not. So he takes out his frustrations on air.

Thank goodness Shark and Logan showed up on 103.9 to give hometown Buckeye fans a good sports-talk show these days. I actually listen to Dan Patrick rather than Hooley/Ricordati/Torg, and he doesn't even talk about sports!

What's the lineup on 103.9? I like Spielman but Hooley ruins that show.

Mark the Shark, Jeff Logan and Kelly Quinn from 6-9 AM weekdays (they used to be after work but WTDA has been juggling their lineups). Then it's Dan Patrick until noon. Some of the other programming is pretty right-wing stuff, obviously not for everybody, but Shark and Logan are great for local pro-Buckeye talk.

Someone please correct me, but I seem to recollect that everyone was against Hooley when he was a hack for the Plain Dealer? But now he's a 'Buckeye Fan'? Don't get the PD here in Cali, but do see the 'Buckeye Blitz' on the B10 channel, and think he's become a 'homer' for the Buckeyes. He makes sense, although everyone on that show looks through rose-colored spectacles, but that's the kind of show it is.

He appears to know his stuff, and carries it off in a real sense on the tube. Hey, if he takes the kings wage, then he serves the king. that's all he's doing, as we all would too. He's paid to say the 'good', while we in the peanut gallery are not paid to see the 'bad' or the 'ugly', which we do.

can't say i pay much attention to him, or anyone in the media for that matter. but what little i have seen from him leads me to believe he stomped on his scarlet colored glasses long ago.

I guess it's just each individuals perspective.

See, I don't hear him saying anything that I necessarily disagree with. I don't think he's being unreasonable today. Obviously the "good radio" piece of it is that he and Spielman disagree and then discuss whatever it is they disagree about. Hooley is actually incredulous that Ohio State fans are complaining about a win that sends the Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl.

He's pointing out that there are fans that are upset with the buttoned down approach to offense that Ohio State employs. Seemingly sitting on a 7 point lead in the 2nd quarter doesn't sit well with some fans. Showing NO faith in Terrelle Pryor to run a little bit of a hurry up to try and win in regulation doesn't sit well with some people. I see both sides to be honest.

Spielman's point today is that Tress won the game. Hooley's point is that Tressel's philosophy will win in the Big 10 but will never beat elite teams. That's the discussion. I don't think it's unreasonable on either side.
