Well, I heard someone say that the definition of a college football fan is someone who is in a constant search for disrespect. We get a chip on our shoulders about our Buckeyes as do other fans about their teams.
I'm not defending Bruce. Like I said, I've thrown things at the TV and been disgusted by things he's said.
But I do believe in proportion. He's a critic of a coach and a football program. I met Jim Tressel once for 10 seconds, and I've met a few dozen players over the years. I am not friends with any of them. In other words, I really love what these guys do, what they represent, and who they represent. They are my team, but I don't really know any of them.
Many years ago the Buckeyes would lose a game and I would be depressed for a week. My wife asked me, "Why do you let the outcome of a ball game, played by people you don't even know, affect your emotions?" Right there I determined to have some semblance of a perspective.
Bruce has not been disparaging my mother or my wife or my daughter or my son. I am not going to treat him like he has.
I agree he's been over the line and it's ok to call him on it. But resorting to murder accusations to describe what appears to be an accident is like bringing a MA Deuce to a fist fight. Let's not be what Bruce thinks we are.
