Bruce Hooley - Biggest Idiot now back on the radio in Cleveland

That show is almost unlistenable.

They over-hype the most mundane topics. I also get sick of hearing about all teams New York or Boston.

Typical ESPN East Coast bias. Dan Patrick even admits it on his show. But I think he's originally from Dayton(?).

I cringed every time the Yawnkees and Bahston played during baseball season, that's all you heard. And who cares about the lame ass Jets outside New Yawk?

The thing that I think Rome does better than anyone else in the business he doesn't do enough of... and that's interviews. He really can get the best out of athletes for some reason... it's like they connect w/ him on some level and they feel more comfortable talking to him.

You mean like the one with Chris....errrr...Jim Everett. That was a classic!!! :slappy:

I've given up on sports radio. None of them have anything to say that intrigues me. Just a bunch of nimrods all singing the same, tired song.

Bruce Hooley - 97.1 THE FAN

Who is this guy? All this melon head does is bitch and moan about everything. The Big Show is impossible to listen to when Spielman is not there. He's now complaining about the Buckeyes getting to the Rose Bowl now, which they're not even there yet. Was he on during the 02 National Championship, and did he complain about not beating Miami by more?

(if he has a thread already please merge this, I could not find one)

He's usually pretty respectable, but today it seems he has his panties in a bunch. Him and Spiels are just yelling about "don't tone down the expectations, we will hold players accountable". Gave me a headache, honestly.

bruce hooley is to respectability as charlie weis is to nutrisystem.

I actually like Hooley. I know he doesn't seem to be very popular on this board, but he's not a "yes" man for Ohio State. He does stir the pot from time to time, but it's his job to create discussion for the show. He doesn't go out of his way to be critical a la Mark May, but he also levels criticism when it needs to be leveled. I know at one point he blasted someone for labeling a kid not a "Tressel type" of recruit. His point was that while Coach Tressel tries to recruit great athletes he can't be held responsible every time a kid screws up. Kids are going to make mistakes and the head coach can't baby sit 24/7.

I like what he has to say.

I used to listen to him more when he was on for the afternoon drive, but since they moved the show to 1:00 I don't hear him as much.

are we talking about the same hooley? I listened to 1460/97.1 for 10+ years so I heard him when he was just a guest hack they would bring on till he had his show. He absolutely has it out for Tressel/OSU football and he is a big reason I stopped listening to sports radio. To each their own but he is a grade A tool

Agreed. He fits the mold of the typical reporter trying to make a name for himself by taking cheap shots at the program. I think I tuned him out for good last year after he said "Terrelle Pryor throws like a girl." My rule of thumb was that I'd listen to the show until I heard his first anti-tOSU statement, then I'd change the station. It got to the point when I wouldn't even make it to the first commercial break.

Objective journalism is one thing. Bashing the hometown team just to stir people up is quite another.

Thanks for the input guys. The torg and the common man are negative as well but at least they come off as likable and I know they're rooting for the Buckeyes. With Hooley I could almost imagine him smiling when Coach Tress and Bucks have a set back. I'm a newbie listener to 97.1 fan this year and started from the beginning of the season and his slurping of pete carroll and the SEC gets tiresome.

I fucking hate the common man and the torg. Can't stand them at all.

I don't think he has it out for Tressel/OSU football at all. He's nowhere near the likes of Mark May, who never has anything good to say about OSU and who picks OSU to lose just about every single time he has the chance. To me, Hooley doesn't have an anti-OSU bias or agenda, yet he's not afraid to put his opinion out there when he doesn't agree with something about the OSU program. Just because he doesn't blindly agree with every decision that's ever been made about OSU sports doesn't mean that he "has it out for Tressel/OSU football."

Not that I advocate reading the entire article, but here is something he wrote that got picked up by FSN. The first 2 sentences are a pretty good example of the tone of his radio show.

Buckeyes' Pryor makes Tressel, OSU fans sweat

by Bruce Hooley, Special to FOXSports.com

Ohio State fans once feared they would have Terrelle Pryor as their quarterback for only three seasons.

Now, they're afraid they might be stuck with him for four.

With no backups ready to replace him, and no Matt Barkley- or Tate Forcier-type recruits headed to Columbus, Pryor is more than the Buckeyes' quarterback of the present.

He's their quarterback of the future.

cont...

Oh please, please send us some Tate Forcier-type recruits. :shake:
