Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

Yeah but that's not what he's looking for it to do. All coaches who want an early signing period want to be able to lock kids up early and not have to worry about decommits. Nobody is going to change the way they recruit the kids who are committing early by saying "I know you want to commit, but just think about it to make sure you're sure."
Oh I agree. I know what his motives are. I'm just saying that's one positive from the scenario.

That's nice of him to want an early signing period...which in the case of Shaun Crawford would screw a high school kid out of making absolutely sure which school he wants to go to.

I'm not just saying this because it's Ohio State/Michigan. The kid clearly has decided he might want to go to a different school. With an early signing period, he'd be stuck with his first decision. Without an early signing period, he realizes that might not be what he wants.

Not only Crawford, but George Campbell, Damien Harris, Gareon Conley, etc etc...

Bingo. And, in typical Michigan fashion, I'm sure all the Michigan fans whining about this as it relates to Crawford are totally OK with how the Lawrence Marshall situation played out.

I find myself on both sides of this. I can see where a college coach might like to have his commits locked up earlier for several reasons, not the least would be the reduction of time and money spent on recruiting.

I can also see that the actual signing date is arbitrary so a kid can have a change of mind/heart regardless of when he signs. There are still kids who are going to want the spotlight of an event - the Army and Under Armor games - to reveal their choice, or the occasional phenom such as Pryor who turns it into a months long spectacle, but most are going to have to commit to keep a spot at the program they want.

From the point of view of a former high school teacher and track coach, once kids sign, some can become a problem. They no longer feel the same need to follow school rules, loyalty to team and teammates in minor sports, put school and team events ahead of other opportunities that arise.

I found this video and thought the beginning epitomizes the attitude Brady Hoke has brought to Michigan.

Accomplish nothing but still talk shit because we're Michigan and that makes us great. Kids talk shit when they commit to Michigan. Michigan recruits talk shit when they are in Columbus for football camps. Michigan players talk shit pre-game after one of the worst stretch of games in the history of their program.

I've been trying not to swear as much in my posts, but fuck Brady Hoke and the new brand of "Michigan Man" he has brought with him.

It's not that new. Rich Rod sent players out to intentionally start shit with Ohio State. The year TP threw an INT early in the game and they still didn't score actually started with a mini confrontation during warmups. They were such a shit team, and the game was at home, it seemed pretty obvious they were told to go out and do something to get fired up. Kind of like Richt telling his players they better get an unsportsmanlike penalty the first time they scored on Florida. The following year was the year that douchebag whose name I forget intentionally walked into Sanzenbacher and then started jawing with him. Again....obviously intentional acts that lead to another L for the sun and blue.

Yeah, and as I watched that video I totally forgot about the entire kickoff team surrounding Dontre and blatantly starting that altercation. It's more obnoxious than anything. Hopefully they keep Hoke around so he can continue to teach his kids to be unmotivated entitled slobs that do all their talking off the field while consistently failing on it.

Mike "Shart" Shaw was the Michigan player, the Ohio State player was Grant Schwartz. Shart was in full uniform while Schwartz was in street clothes. Typical.

In the game itself (2009), Shart had eight touches for one yard. Way to walk the walk, loser!

Oh yeah....forgot about that one. You'd think doing it year after year while piling up the losses would make you question the logic.
