BOSTON -- Let's just come right out and say it: The better team won.
Yes, it's time to go ahead and make that statement. The Boston Celtics are better than the Detroit Pistons. They proved it Wednesday night in ways big and small, looking fresher, hungrier, deeper and more efficient than the team they've been measuring themselves against throughout their season of rebirth.
"We know this [conference] is going to be won by one of three teams, and this is one of them," Celtics forward Kevin Garnett said after the 90-78 win over the Pistons.

Celtics 116, Bulls 93 -- Paul Pierce scored 22 points and Kevin Garnett added 16 points and eight rebounds before the Boston starters sat out the fourth quarter in the Celtics' seventh straight win.
Boston, which won its 10th straight home game, led by 12 after one quarter and 20 after two. It was 88-68 late in the third quarter when the subs opened a 26-point lead.

Allen, Celtics breeze by Grizzlies for eighth straight win


MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Despite playing the second game of a back-to-back against a weak opponent, the Boston Celtics took a professional, workmanlike approach against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Ray Allen scored 23 points and Paul Pierce added 19 to lead the Celtics to a 119-89 victory over Memphis on Saturday night, sending the Grizzlies to their worst loss of the season.

Celtics continue strong play, handle 76ers for ninth straight win


PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Boston's Big Three hit the Big 5-0.
Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce believe the Celtics are only getting started.

"It doesn't really mean anything," said Allen, shrugging.

Garnett had 26 points and 12 rebounds to help the Celtics reach 50 victories for the first time in 16 years by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 100-86 on Monday night.

Balanced Celtics rout Sonics for 10th straight victory


BOSTON (AP) -- With their longest winning streak in nearly 22 years, the Boston Celtics' confidence continues to grow as they eye their toughest road trip of the season.
Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen each scored 18 points to lift the Celtics to their season-high 10th straight victory, 111-82 over the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday night.

"We are talking more than ever and we feel connected," Garnett said. "Any team can beat you in this league, but confidence-wise we are strong 1 to 12 and that is a rarity."

With Celtics success, Pierce having career season


Paul Pierce is one of the main reasons the Boston Celtics have the NBA's best record at 50-12. On a team with three All-Stars and lots of scoring, Pierce is averaging a team-best 20.3 points in 37.2 minutes. He is shooting 45 percent from the field, a career-best 84.4 percent from the line, and his 3-point percentage of 39.5 is his best since the 2001-02 season. He averages 5.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.3 steals, and is also the only Celtic who has played in all 62 games (after playing in only 47 last season because of injuries).
"This is probably one of my better seasons overall," said the 10-year veteran. "Maybe not numbers-wise, but with the team's success and everything we've got going on, I'm shooting a career best from the free throw line. I want to take advantage of the opportunities that are out there."

With a slip on the TD Banknorth Garden floor last night, Celtics guard Ray Allen's left foot woes returned.
Allen went to the locker room with a bruised left heel after slipping near the free throw line in the first quarter of Boston's 110-92 loss to the Utah Jazz. While Allen did make the trip to Milwaukee for tonight's game, coach Doc Rivers said Allen must be "extremely healthy" to play against the Bucks.
"It's a tough blow, especially going out on the [road trip]," Rivers said. "I'm hoping he's healthy for that. But you know, I'm not going to change my rule. He's going to have to be extremely healthy for me to play him. And if he can't play, then someone else is just going to have to step up and play, and we've done that pretty well this year."

A four-star stretch for Celtics

SAN ANTONIO - There will be no Southern hospitality for the Celtics this week.
Boston faces its toughest road challenge of the season over the next four games against Western Conference power teams that have at least 43 wins. The Celtics open the trip against reigning NBA champion San Antonio tonight and follow with games against Houston, Dallas, and New Orleans.
"These next four games are going to be playoff-style basketball games," forward Kevin Garnett said. "We have to be ready."
Measuring sticks have come and gone for the Celtics, who own the NBA's best record at 52-13.
