Baron hits jumper at buzzer as Warriors survive Celtics

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- From the Celtics' Big Three to the last three fans in the standing-room-only crowd, everybody knows what's coming when the Golden State Warriors need a last-second basket.
Baron Davis keeps delivering anyway -- and his latest theatrics brought down the curtain on the NBA leaders.

Davis hit a 20-foot jumper with 0.3 seconds to play, and the Warriors beat Boston 119-117 on Wednesday night to send the Celtics to their second straight loss since Garnett's return.

Board work by Shaq, Amare lifts Suns to win over stumbling Celtics

PHOENIX (AP) -- Boston's rough journey through the West got a little uglier on Friday night.
Amare Stoudemire scored 28 points and the Phoenix Suns gave the Celtics their first three-game losing streak of the season with a rugged 85-77 victory.

The Celtics never led while falling to 0-3 on their five-game trip through the West after going 16-0 against the Western Conference. Phoenix improved to 22-2 against the East.

"This West is no joke," Boston's Kevin Garnett said. "I said it before the trip that it's going to be a test, and that's what it's become."

Pierce leads Celtics with 30 points; All-Star Roy injures ankle

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Paul Pierce wasn't going to be embarrassed again.
After struggling against the Phoenix Suns two days earlier, Pierce scored 30 points to lead the Boston Celtics over the Portland Trail Blazers 112-102 on Sunday.

"Last game, the way I played was one of my top-five worst games of my career," said Pierce, who had eight points against the Suns. "I wanted to come out and focus better, and shots were there and I was able to knock them down."

The Celtics trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half, but gained control in the second when the Blazers struggled without guard Brandon Roy.

Roy, an All-Star reserve and last season's Rookie of the Year, left for the locker room in the third quarter. The team said he had aggravated a right ankle sprain.

"It's pretty sore. I'm going to get an MRI tonight," Roy said. "It's something that's been bothering me since the Dallas game before the break."

Celtics rout Clippers, finish five-game West swing with 2-3 record

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Their longest losing skid of the season behind them, the Celtics head back to Boston with a modest two-game winning streak.
"We started out with three tough games against three quality opponents and we faced some adversity, but we didn't waiver from what we've been wanting to do and what our goals were," the Celtics' Ray Allen said after Boston routed the Los Angeles Clippers 104-76.

"The last game of a road trip is always the toughest game because you have a tendency of wanting to be back home."

Boston began the season 16-0 against Western Conference teams, but went 2-3 in their five-game road trip, losing at Denver, Golden State and Phoenix before beating Portland and the Clippers.

LeBron overcomes ankle injury, but Celtics still beat Cavs

Kevin Garnett scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds to help Boston win its third straight and improve to 2-2 for the season against the defending Eastern Conference champions. The Cavaliers were playing their third game with four new players, including Ben Wallace, acquired in an 11-player, three-team deal at the trading deadline.

"They're so new, we really didn't see them," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "They're going to be so much better because of that trade."

Q: What are your thoughts on Sam Cassell (potentially) joining the Celtics? Does he have enough left in the tank? How will he mesh with the Ubuntu chemistry?
-- Pat D., Somerville, Mass.

SG: After watching Cassell up close for three years, I can report the following certainties: He's not washed up; he hasn't slipped so much defensively that he's a complete liability; he works the refs better than anyone in the league; he's a charismatic presence on and off the court; and he can still catch fire during games and carry a team for small stretches. It's hard to imagine a better fit for the Celtics, especially when you factor in his relationship with KG, the way he matches up against bigger, more physical guards like Chauncey Billups (the real reason the Celts passed on Damon Stoudamire), his knack for hitting big shots (which they need), and the fact Boston's big guys could protect him against quicker guards. And he would add one more super-competitive guy to an already super-competitive team.

sam cassell would be a great addition...boston needs a pg with experience....eddie house playing the point off the bench hurts because he is a stand up shooter...cassell would free him up to be that

Bingo. Cassell would be a good fit for the rest of this season. Rando has improved nicely but there's no true PG behind him. That void would get exploited in the playoffs.

Cassell gets buyout; next stop Boston? - The Boston Globe

The first step toward veteran point guard Sam Cassell becoming a Celtic took place yesterday. Cassell signed buyout papers with the Clippers and won't clear waivers until Monday at 6 p.m., assuming he clears. The 38-year-old is expected to sign with the Celtics over the Nuggets and Mavericks. Rondo's 16 assists power Celtics' close call vs. Bobcats

BOSTON (AP) -- The Celtics' opponents are learning a hard lesson: Pay too much attention to the Big Three and their solid supporting cast will beat you.
Kendrick Perkins scored 19 points and Rajon Rondo had a career-high 16 assists in Boston's 108-100 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night.

"[That] shows how unselfish Rajon is," said Celtics forward Paul Pierce, who scored 13 points. "I think teams are starting to take notice of our other guys.
