AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Quite a scene it was, the one Boston Celtics forward James Posey was making as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
"Thanks for coming," Posey yelled to the fans behind the visitors bench, using his loudest, most sing-songy voice.
Adios! See ya," Posey said, mocking the Detroit fans by pretending to wipe tears from his eyes. "What's the score?"

And to end it all off, Posey threw in one more insult, intoning the "Deeeee-troit basketball!" rally cry that Palace p.a. announcer John Mason has made his signature.
Happy with the win, James? Guess so.
"It was a nice win for us. We came back and returned the favor," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "Our guys are excited -- maybe a little too much, but that was a good win for our team."
Indeed it was for the Celtics, who overcame a 21-2 Pistons run in the first half by matching Detroit's early aggression and then outexecuting them down the stretch for a 92-85 victory Saturday night that snapped Detroit's 11-game winning streak and extended the Celtics' own streak to nine in a row, improving their record to an incredible 29-3.

Celtics lose for second time in last three games


WASHINGTON (AP) -- Not only did the Washington Wizards finally beat a team with a winning record, they beat the team with the best record.
Their reward? Not much of one. They've got to try to do the same thing again on Monday.

Still, for one sloppy but exciting night, the Wizards did what few others have done this season. They beat the Boston Celtics, closing the game with a 15-4 run Saturday night for an 85-78 victory.

"There was no time for soft hearts, or people who just couldn't stand it," Washington coach Eddie Jordan said. "It was tough at every level -- mentally, physically, emotionally."

The Wizards rallied from a seven-point, fourth-quarter deficit to hand the Celtics their second loss in three games and only their fifth defeat of the season. Unfortunately for Washington, the game will very much be fresh in everyone's mind when the teams meet again in Boston on Monday -- if the trash-talking on the court is any indication.

"It's going to be a big game," Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson said. "We were talking back and forth, so they're going to be ready."

Celtics win second straight since losing streak


BOSTON (AP) -- The Philadelphia 76ers ran with Celtics for one half. Then Boston ran right by them.
Paul Pierce scored 14 of his 22 points in the third quarter to help the Celtics take the lead, and Ray Allen scored 10 of his 23 in the fourth when they pulled away from Philadelphia to win 116-89 on Friday night.

"We played with a lot more passion, especially in the third quarter, the fourth quarter," Pierce said. "We said at halftime, this team's not going anywhere. They play everybody tough, regardless of their record."

Kevin Garnett had 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds in Boston's second consecutive victory since their only losing streak of the season: a two-game skid -- and three losses in four games -- that has been the only blip for the best team in the league.

NBA roundup: Raptors' 15 threes pin first division loss on Celtics

Jose Calderon converted a go- ahead, three-point play with 10.5 seconds left last night and finished with 24 points and 13 assists, leading the visiting Toronto Raptors to a 114-112 victory over the Boston Celtics.
Chris Bosh and Anthony Parker scored 23 points apiece for the Raptors, and Andrea Bargnani had 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Carlos Delfino was 5 of 5 from three-point range, and Calderon had four of Toronto's 15 three-pointers (in 21 tries).
Kevin Garnett scored 26 for Boston, which had won three in a row and hadn't lost to an Atlantic Division rival in 10 tries this season. Paul Pierce had 19 points and nine assists, and Ray Allen also scored 19 for Boston.

NBA roundup: Celtics struggle to beat lowly Timberwolves

Celtics 87, Timberwolves 86 -- Kendrick Perkins scored on a putback with 16.6 seconds left, and Kevin Garnett poked the ball away from Sebastian Telfair as time expired to lift host Boston last night.

In the first matchup between Garnett and the handful of ex-Celtics traded to Minnesota for him, Boston struggled to put away the team with the worst record in the NBA. Perkins scored 21, Paul Pierce had 19 points and eight assists and Garnett had 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Magic 96, Celtics 93 -- Hedo Turkoglu made an
off-balance three-pointer as time expired to lift host Orlando.
Boston played for the first time without Kevin Garnett, who sat out because of a strained abdominal muscle. He is listed as day to day.
Dwight Howard had 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Magic, which nearly blew a 16-point second-half lead with a lousy fourth quarter.
Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 24 points and nine rebounds.

CLEVELAND -- The Boston Celtics are Beantown's newest Green Monster.
On the strength of three potential Hall of Famers, the Celtics own the league's best record and are one of the biggest threats to the Cleveland Cavaliers reaching the NBA Finals a second straight year.
The Cavaliers will play host to the star-laden Celtics tonight in Quicken Loans Arena. It will be the third meeting between the teams this season, with each winning at home.
