Boise State in the NC game?

Wow - we really screwed things up for our conference

Not the collective lot of sensible southern fans, so please don't try the guilt trip. However did you ever see a Northwestern fans going to a Miami board after OSU beat them for the title talking about how fucking great the Big 10 was? Nope.

You have fans of teams in your conference that ruin thread after thread of decent football talk on hundreds of forums - fan's whose teams haven't sniffed the title game, yet speak as if it's somehow their school is relavent because LSU or Bama or UF take the crystal.

So, for the most part - we're correct in tagging many SEC fans with that name.

After the LSU loss, we had more Vanderbilt trolls register here than LSU ones.

No guilt trip - I was trying to be a smartass. I just guess I have a different expectation of things. I expect a certain amount of shit-talk and understand that it comes from the "unwashed masses" and not sensible football fans.

Regardless - your point is well taken. SEC football fans can be total dicks and that isn't likely to change anytime soon.

Do they get into the NC game if:

Multiple un-defeateds (3 or more including BSU)...

Two un-defeated teams including BSU but with a strong one-loss SEC, B10, B12, Pac10 champ?

What do you guys think?

I think if they are un-defeated they HAVE to get the nod in any scenario so the BCS can avoid inviting congress.

It would be ideal if Alabama or whatever SEC team gets tripped up and Ohio State can take care of business...

How bout this scenario... Ohio State & Boise are the only undefeated teams. BUT Alabama only loses to Florida during the regular season but then beats them for the SEC title.

Who plays in the title? The two darlings of those 3 teams will be Alabama & Boise. Especially if Ohio St doesn't have many blowouts?

I hate that scenario....absolutely fucking loathe it! If Ohio State gets into the NC game, we NEED to play the SEC champ/USC/Texas. Were we to win a NC by going through Boise State, it would give the haters all the ammo they need for another decade.

I am with you on this one ORD. What if the above scenario happens and Alabama is on the outside looking in. There will always be that doubt whether they would have won the title game. Even if Ohio St blows out Boise people will then point to Boise being a non-BCS team and not deserving and there is the SEC champion on the outside looking in.

Two points sir - and I am not trying to be a smartass here.

1. It ain't gonna be a dynamite year for the SEC. So if you get there - you probably aren't gonna play a representative from our conference

2. The teams from our conference don't give a shit who we beat to win it all and we have no problem talking crap once we have the ring - so it shouldn't bother the buckeyes either!

While your conference wouldn't give a shit who you beat, I am sure you guys would beat your chests that Ohio State got 'lucky' to not have to face a deserving one-loss SEC champ and would have lost and thus are not the 'real' national champions.

I still don't understand why what anyone else thinks about Ohio State being national champs in that scenario would even matter. The title wouldn't have an asterisk, there wouldn't be half of a trophy...it would be a national title earned.

Seems kind of unfair to the players on YOUR team to buy into the mindset that it matters what the losers think. You and your boys won. That's all that counts.

What some SEC fans don't understand is that a lot of big ten fans/fans of big ten teams know that the SEC is the best conference and has been for the past decade. It just gets annoying when they say they are so much better than everybody else or they have god like speed. Is the SEC the best.....sure they are....but they aren't far and above everybody else. There is talent in other conferences.......

I find it hilarious that the media is lauding Boise's schedule because they are being "agressive" this year.

Soooo, scheduling to teams from BCS conferences, 2 at best middle tier teams, is "aggressive" now?

How about someone like tOSU that plays quality opponents in and out nearly every week? Last year alone we played more quality opponents than Boise has in 4 years.

And the Butler/Boise comparison doesn't work. Butler played decent teams to get that point, including tOSU in the regular season, Syracuse, Mich State etc.

As soon as Boise schedules the top teams in either the B10, SEC or B12 I am not impressed. Play decent football teams, then you get respect. Throw an Oklahoma, Texas, tOSU, 'Bama, Georgia, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Wisconsin etc and still go undefeated, then I'm impressed. But to play ONE, maybe TWO teams from BCS conferences does not validate them.

I'd be willing to argue well against that. Including the poster child UF program which is 5-5 this decade in Bowl games including a 2-3 mark against the Big10 in that same span.

I should say a 1-4 mark just because of the officiating travesty that was the 05 outback bowl.

I'm not saying its just the SEC, believe me I'm well aware of how bad some of our own fans can be - special consideration to State Penn. However what we and many other fans of teams not limited to the Big10 or Big12 have seen is nothing short of just sad.

Exactly my point... I'm sure most were being held at gun point by LSU fans who we're in fact "borrowing" their computers though.

Well a SEC team has won the BCS championship 6 out of the last 12 years and have a 6-0 record in the championship. Florida is also 5-1 in BCS games. LSU is 4-0 in BCS games. It's hard to argue against that.

Well Boise St did play Oregon last year. They were "decent" last year. I would like to see Boise St in the PAC 10.

Aside from their current run, of 4 straight, their previous two wins were the 1998 and 2003 seasons. So to say they've been dominant for the entire decade isn't accurate at all. Especially considering that the SEC participant required tOSU losing a late Big10 game in order to take that 2nd spot in the title game. Only has it been the latter part of the 2000's (and underwhelming competition) that its been pretty damn obvious.

Well which conference has been better than the SEC the past decade? I'm not trying to start an argument by any means.....just a healthy debate.

Also have to look that the SEC is 14-5 in BCS games.

Big Ten, 10-11 (Big Ten was 4-0 in the late 90s....always thought the Big Ten was the best conference in the 90s)

Big Twelve, 7-10

Pac Ten, 9-5 (USC is 6-1)
