Boise State 33, Virginia Tech 30 (final)

So you are saying that if we go undefeated, we won't be leapfrogged by Boise? I just want to be sure that we are on the same page here.

Personally I would say if we don't get leapfrogged this week, then no, they won't. And neither will Alabama. But the chances of both teams going undefeated playing, you know, in a real conference are slim.

An undefeated Boise State will get jumped by any undefeated team in the SEC (besides Bama, who's already ahead of them), and by an undefeated Texas/Okla/Nebraska out of the Big XII.

And there's no way Boise St will get ahead of an undefeated tOSU in the BCS standings.

If I had any vCash, i would put it all on them jumping to #2 in the AP. :(

And we lost to a pretty weak USC squad, who got beat by Washington the next week. It happens. They aren't UCLA basketball...

And WTF happened to us in the media when we lost that game? They were all over our nuts about how overrated we have been for years, and how the entire conference is weak because we always win it, and how we didn't dseserve shit and still don't. Boise loses 2 horrible games in 3 years and then beats Oregon last year and stomps over the Southwestern Schools of the Blind Yaya Sisterhood Conference all season, and all of a sudden they are worthy of 10 national championships. Huge difference, wouldn't you say?

Thank you.

And after what transpired between undefeated Cincy and one loss UF last season, I would not put my money against a one loss SEC team leapfrogging Boise.....

What everyone else said. Oh, and unlike almost every other team in history, once they reach the top 2, they won't get dropped by the voters if they only beat a crappy team by a score or less either.

This is a really good point IMO.

With the exception that an undefeated SEC team, ranked #3 behind #2 Boise and #1 tOSU going into the last week of the season, after winning the SEC title would probably jump Boise.

Boise's schedule will really hurt them in November/December, when the shine of this win has worn off. When OSU is playing Wisconsin, Iowa and Penn State, Boise will be playing their typical Idaho, La Tech etc...the national perception will be affected.

Like has been said, if we take care of business Boise will not be an issue.

Agree with the first part, disagree with the second. The media has concoted their selective outrage of the year and will be on a season'long pressure campaign to make sure an undefeated Boise State team stays ahead of 1-loss teams. That will include, as it sometimes does, calling out coaches by name and Harris voters by name who don't have it "ranked right". Don't underestimate the power of media pressure.

I think the hatred comes from the fact that they CLEARLY play inferior teams with the exception of one or two times a SEASON. Yet, they expect to be treated like an OSU/OK/FLA or something when they go undefeated. No, it isn't impressive to win 13 games against absolutely terrible teams. Outside of Va Tech and OR State, BSU won't play a single team of Michigan State, Purdue or Northwestern. And those are the middle/low half of the B10.

Boise should go Independent if they want to be taken seriously. Hell, Notre Dame's schedule is so much [censored]ing better.

Not to mention that there is still a little disgust over the fact that last season, the Hout kid didn't so much as get a slap on the wrist for being a dick and starting the fracas against Oregon.

To wrap up, it isn't the games Boise wins that aren't impressive, its the 90% of their schedule that sucks.

My BIGGEST ISSUE in all of this is the "they" mentality. Chris Peterson has NEVER ONCE complained or asked to be placed in a BCS title game. Even after going undefeated last year, he said it was a privilege just to be in a BCS game. People clamor like these guys are screaming from the mountain-top, yet they aren't. They just continually beat who is in front of them. The BCS did THEMSELVES a favor by not pairing Boise State against a BCS school. They didn;t want the backlash in the event Boise played well...

I'm an Ohio State fan too, and would hate Boise State getting in, in front of the Bucks, but give these guys some credit. They're good......

I don't think anyone has said they aren't "good"...

I didn't say they weren't good, in fact, I said the individual games weren't the problem, it was the schedule. And people aren't outraged because Peterson is an asshole, they are outraged because the media is pushing and pushing for Boise to be handed a ticket to the MNC.

I don't give a FUCK if Boise is happy being stuck in non NC bowl games; unless they intend to turn down an invite to the MNC I am concerned about them being given a pass despite their weak credentials.

Be truthful about it?? USC was pretty average last year, so that loss was pretty bad at home. And nobody ever tried giving Boise State 10 championships...

In fact, I haven;t heard anybody give them 1 championship...it's just overblown hatred for a mid-major that plays some bad-ass football. Chris Peterson has this program rolling, and in fact, Peterson was the reason they were winning under Dan Hawkins. Peterson has been the general in charge of the offense since he got to Boise, and that program has been solid since.

They deserve some credit...great program, that coaches it's players up. You'd think that a fanbase that has seen A.J. Hawk, Nick Mangold, Malcolm Jenkins, even Jonathon Hankins would appreciate the job these guys do as a staff...

An unnamed front four just dominated the LOS against a team with a Heisman candidate. Again, Va Tech's best offense was when Taylor escaped the pocket...

I think Boise is a program with less talent, but much better coaching and scheme...bottom line.

This scenario played out last year, and florida was still ranked ahead of Boise, by a wide margin mind you, after their regular season ending loss. The writers always want to get their story but there is a lot of dollars and a lot at stake here, and that includes big media organizations.
