Bobby Petrino (Lover of Harleys and Volleyball Players)

More bad press for Petrino ...

"Petrino's Exit a Dirty Shame"

I was starting to feel sorry for Bobby Petrino, the embattled, first-year head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Then he abruptly resigned Monday to return to the college ranks as the new head coach at the University of Arkansas.
Now I feel a different emotion. Disgust.
I'm sure Petrino had high aspirations when he left the comforting environment of the University of Louisville and accepted that five-year, $24 million contract to become the Falcons' coach last January. Then his dreams turned into a nightmare.
.....
But you know what? Bad things happen -- in football just like in life. Those with heart, gumption and mettle fight through adversity. Those who lack those characteristics look for the nearest fire escape. Petrino took the easy way out. He put his own interests above his team's and quit. Way to set an example for the young men you now will be leading at Arkansas, Bobby.

Would you trust your son to play for Petrino? How could you believe anything this man said knowing full well he may up and quit on you the next day? You have to wonder if the likes of Saban and Petrino are becoming more of a norm in the coaching environment.

...or are their actions so out of the norm that they get this much attention?

I don't agree with the decision at all...not for me. However, I can't judge the man's choice based on the nature of the business itself.

High risk, high reward position...for the coach and for the employer.

I hear what you are saying on this Grad and I think the point is well taken when you look at what has occurred already with other coaches this season that have been let go or silently forced out.

On Petrino, didn't he sign a 10 year extension with Louisville before turning around and taking the deal with Atlanta?

I don't blame Petrino one bit. He has to think about his career and his family ahead of those would-be thugs and whiny little bitches that are left on that sinking ship that is the Atlanta Falcons.

Any self-respecting coach who interviews for this position and has designs on having an actual future in the league will not take this job without assurances that they can turn over almost the entire team - like what Sean Payton did with the Saints when he took the job.

In my opinion there are some seriously smarmy coaches out there... If I were the AFCA, I'd be making a point to my members to 'Stay classy' as your go about your merry way. Cowherd said it best... the coaches have created this monster themselves. As a result they need to be prepared to deal with the media asking all the questions.

Petrino is clearly a douchebag... I understand that Atlanta has problems and his style was likely never going to work in the NFL, but for Christ's sake stay on and finish the year like a (40 year old) man. Don't quit mid-stream. If Arkansas wanted you that badly then they would've waited. Period.

That being said, the one body with the power to fix this is the NCAA. Put in regulations regarding coaching interviews that mandate you must wait until after the last bowl game to begin the process. Clearly this means recruiting and NLOI day will need to be pushed back, but please do something. This is getting ridiculous and embarrassing.

No way he was the worst ever Failcons coach, 40. Do you remember Marion Campbell (either time he was hired), Glanville, June Fucking Jones. They all suck, they always have and they always will. In my 30+ years in Atlanta I have never seen anything that would make me think otherwise.

I won't try to defend Petrino because I really don't care, but it says a lot about the franchise he left that he was willing to take a million dollar paycut. Just given that fact we ought to cut him some slack.

Itz awryt wen we'uns make us'ins look baid, Steve. Itz wen Damnyankee ca'petbeggas try'in make us'ins look baid thayet's trubble.
