Bobby Petrino (Lover of Harleys and Volleyball Players)

Add ESPN's Pat Forde to the list of those blasting Petrino. Forde gives a pretty good timeline of his "coaching activites" too.

Petrino's been down this road before... and likely will again

By Pat Forde
ESPN.com

In the coming days and weeks, the disingenuous drifter will say what Arkansas fans want to hear.

He'll look at them with blank shark eyes and tell them, in a monotone voice, how excited he is to be the coach of the Razorbacks. He will tell them how impressed he is by the tradition and the fan base. He will tell them that the Southeastern Conference is the place he always wanted to coach (and that might be the one true thing he'll say, given how many times he's tried to land a job in the league).

It will be a trumped-up stump speech, as sincere as a politician's pledge to cut taxes. It will simply be the latest pack of lies in a career full of them.

But it will be what Arkansas fans want to hear, and the poor saps will be desperate to believe him. During their arduous search to replace Houston Nutt, they've been used and abused by one-fourth of the coaches in the ACC -- first Butch Davis, then Tommy Bowden, then Jim Grobe. Auburn's Tommy Tuberville flirted for a minute as well.

So hiring a guy with a 41-9 college record will get the blood pumping. But those Arkansas fans ready to embrace their new hotshot coach and his pretty ball plays need to understand one thing:

The disingenuous drifter doesn't love you or any other fan base. He doesn't love any school or any NFL franchise. He loves himself, his playbook and his bank account.

Pat Forde is a Louisville homer. There's probably a grain of truth to most of what he's saying, but he's just feeling jilted because Petrino's not going to be suffering with the lousy Falcons, and Louisville is probably about to go back to sucking big time.

This was the right move for Petrino, and especially for R-Kansas.

Wasn't aware Forde was a Louisville homer... if he is than the tone of this article doesn't surprise me at all.

I could not care less about Petrino and his team-swinging but the thing that really bugs me about these coaches leaving their contracts early is that they don't want to play ball on both sides of the street. If a school wants to terminate a coach early they end up having to pay some sort of buy-out to the coach. The coach leaves early... no repercussions (though buyout clauses are starting to gain momentum in the big schools: see Miles).

My take is this: you are only as hot as your last season, and then you fade. Staying for several years at a failing Falcons organization makes you a failure. Nobody gives a shit the reasons why. To get a good job you have to be the "it" hot coach. He was that, but through poor planning did not parlay that to a better college coaching job. Most coaches are looking for the job that is - as Urban calls it - "the top of the mountain", albeit the mountain is a different thing to different people. That is why he is not the coach of Bolling Green or Utah this year.

Petrino saw that his value as a "commodity" was about to go way down. And he was about to be fired in a year or two if his sorry ass Falcon team did not get better. That writing is on the wall. Until the employer is obligated to keep you when things go bad, the employee can leave in that same situation. All coaches operate in the same way broadly - they want to move up. That is why Tress is not a Penguin today. It is how they handle the transaction that is the determinative factor in how we perceive them.

Saying "I have nothing to say at this time, I am happy at X University and hope to remain" - only to accept a new job at a teary eyed news conference does seems different on its face than "I will remain the coach at X" and leaving the next day, but it is still in the final analysis breaking a contract for a term and leaving because you will get more money and prestige at a better job.

Welcome to western capitalism.

I have a question. What ever happened to these contracts that these coaches sign and agree to?

I think I heard that Petrino has signed a new contract 5 times in the last 5 years. I know he signed a 10 year extention at Louisville, 5 year deal at the Falcons, and now a 5 year deal at Arkansas. I don't know what happened those first two "contracts". If these "contracts" aren't valid or upheld, then what is the point of them? Why not just call them agreements, or use another terminology?

Im not a big fan of Petrino.....seemed like every year, he had his name out there for other jobs while at Louisville. I think hes a classless scumbag. Last year before the UL-WVU game, the UL captains refused to shake our captains hands....great reflection of their scum coach......

Petrino is a failure a fraud and a liar. I echo what what said on ESPN. Petrino couldn't hack it in the NFL bailed out like a pussy. The Falcons suck right now and will next year as well, Petrino didn't want to deal with it and quit. I am not that upset as a Falcon fan and stated at the time that I believe he was a bad hire, but to phone it in? Scumbag asshole.

Petrino is a pussy AKA ham wallet and a loser. He and Saban need to have a love child so we can finally target who the third anti-christ is supposed to be. Both these guys are absolutely horrible people as far as men of character goes and I am shocked anyone would allow their child to be coached by these scumbags. How are these "men" supposed to help young football players grow as individuals and prepare them for the world when they can't be real men themselves.
