It's okay, I couldn't remember Mick's last name, I had to look it up.

:slappy:

Isn't Huggins lucky to have such a handsome fanbase waiting for him in Morgantown?

With regard to Patterson, Beasley, and Walker all joining Huggy Bear that West Virginia, a lot of that is going to depend on how many scholarships they have available and how many players John B. signed in the early signing period. I am too lazy to look all that stuff up:)

The departure of Bob Huggins leaves two top players at a university in Manhattan, Kan., that they would not have considered if not for Huggins. Bill Walker, a freshman forward, will probably play for them next season. Michael Beasley, a forward considered the nation's top prospect, signed a letter of intent with Kansas State early this year. But if he seeks to be let out of his commitment, as many believe he will, Kansas State AD Tim Weiser reiterated yesterday that it is university policy to not allow any athletes to do so.

Hate to get off-topic, but this is one of my pet peeves. If a coach leaves, signed recruits (incoming, not yet enrolled) should be free to make a choice. I know kids are supposed to select a school for its academic merits, but the connection between coach and athlete, more often than not, seals the deal. I'm sure the NCAA's administrative body will step in and rectify this problem. :roll1:

808 is completely correct here. When a Coach goes after a kid HE is the salesman looking to "close the deal." This shit should actually be written into the NLOI as far as I'm concerned, and there should be an "out" clause if the Coach who recruits a kid decides to leave before he enrolls. Does anybody out there really believe that Oden and Conley would have come here if Matta wasn't our coach? From what I've heard, they would have possibly gone to Xavier if Matta had stayed there. Those two signed to play for Thad Matta moreso than than to play for TOSU.

The schools hold all the cards the way the game works now. I would advise a 5-star recruit to only give a verbal commitment, and not send in the NLOI on signing day. Tell the school to hold open the schollie, and if the head coach is still there after the March/April coaching merry-go-round, then send it in.

Many schools and coaches would be pressuring the kid to sign and fax, but the more pressure they apply, IMO, the less likely it is that's a good place to be.

But only a few of the very top-level kids would be able to try that approach. And if the head coach is thinking about leaving, he's more likely to allow the kid to hold off, so he could be followed to the new job. Right now Huggins probably wishes that Beasley had done this.

They both said there is no way that they would play at Xavier because it is too small of a school or something to that effect...but i agree with your point...if the coach leaves there it is ridiculous that a player cant get out of his LOI

Huggins: Tough to leave KSU

CANTON TWP. A packed parking lot. Plenty of laughter. A man hunkered over the microphone mixing stories and one-liners in a hushed dead-pan delivery.

Yep. It was that time of year again for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club - the annual visit of popular college basketball Coach Bob Huggins to Four Winds restaurant.

Tales and anecdotes from Huggins filled nearly an hour, and he said "most of it's true, actually."

Huggins signs extension to keep him at West Virginia until age 65

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins signed an 11-year contract with the school Friday that will keep him at his alma mater until he's 65.
The deal will pay Huggins $1.5 million a year, plus incentives. When he arrived in April 2007, he was paid $800,000 in his first season.
"It's a great day for myself and for my family. To be able to represent this great state is an honor," Huggins said. "It's great to be able to work in a place where you enjoy the people that you work with and you trust the people that you work with."
Athletic director Ed Pastilong said the contract keeps Huggins at West Virginia "for the remainder of his coaching career" and it's possible the contract could go beyond age 65.
"This is a good marriage," Pastilong said.
The contract, which Pastilong said would be made public Monday, includes a $4 million buyout, the same amount the university is seeking to recover from former football coach Rich Rodriguez, who quit in December for a job at Michigan.
Rodriguez, who is fighting his buyout, has said WVU President Mike Garrison promised to reduce or eliminate the buyout clause -- a claim Garrison has denied.
When asked whether he had received any promise or assertion from the administration that was not written into his own contract, Huggins responded, "Not that I know of."
"Me either," added Garrison.
When Huggins arrived at West Virginia, he agreed to a five-year deal outlined in an offer sheet. Recently, he signed a contract with WVU that was similar to the original agreement. Administrators then suggested the university make it a long-term deal.
When asked why it took a year to sign a contract, Huggins said, "When you get older, things don't seem to be as urgent as what they used to be."
The Mountaineers went 26-11 this season and advanced to the NCAA tournament's third round for the third time in four years.
"I'm excited that we're able to go full steam into the future," Huggins said. "We want to win a national championship. We want to go to the Final Four."
Huggins played at WVU from 1975 to 1977, leading the Mountaineers in assists his senior year.

Great to see Huggy staying at my second favorite program (although there is quite a gap between tOSU and WVU), hes already put together a great recruiting class, and hopefully can take West Virginia to the next level.

I'm pretty sure I saw on ESPN bottom line that Huggins could be fired for continual substance abuse that has been effecting his performance. :paranoid:

not quite....he isn't being accused of anything yet...

The contract also stipulates Huggins can be fired for substance abuse or habitual intoxication affecting his job performance. A West Virginia spokesman said that is a standard clause in employment contracts.[/quote}
