The coach is in North Carolina for a Mountaineer Athletic Club event. Carolinas Medical Center officials in Charlotte say West Virginia University Head Basketball Coach Bob Huggins was taken to their emergency room.
Huggins was in North Carolina for a Mountaineer Athletic Club "Coaches Caravan" event.
WVU Athletice Director Ed Pastilong says Huggins had gotten off of a plane at the airport in Charlotte and was checking his cell phone messages when he tripped over a cone on the tarmac and hit his head on the pavement.
Huggins' injuries are not thought to be too serious and the trip to the hospital was precautionary.
Pastilong says Huggins got a bump on his head and never lost consciousness.
Hospital officials say Huggins is still at the hospital.
Pastilong says he is expected to be released soon.
Huggins does have a history of heart problems, but this incident is not thought to be related.

West Virginia University says basketball coach Bob Huggins' rib-breaking fall occurred because medication taken on an empty stomach left him lightheaded.
President James Clements and Athletic Director Oliver Luck told the Charleston Daily Mail that Huggins stood too quickly, tripped and fell into a table in his Las Vegas hotel room last week.
WVU spokeswoman Becky Lofstead on Friday confirmed the report. She wouldn't say what the medication was.
Huggins broke seven ribs and was hospitalized for several days.
A number of current and former college basketball coaches?Billy Donovan, Roy Williams, Bob Knight, Jamie Dixon, among others?gave presentations at a Nike clinic over the weekend at Robert Morris University in suburban Pittsburgh. But according to an eyewitness, West Virginia's Bob Huggins is the only one reported to have been "slirring [sic] his speech, swaying, talking in circles and dropping f bombs" when it was his turn.
Huggins's talk was called "Our Man to Man Offensive Concepts," and it was scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. A source in Pittsburgh just told me eight different people who were there have confirmed to him Huggins was wasted. And here's a sampling of Twitter responses from some of those who were present for it:
