Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

Sing it with me, PedStaters:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!

(In case you haven't checked lately, the translation for auld lang syne is "times gone by"--or--buh-bye, as the case may be for BOB.)

I so wanna go on their site, but it's 11:47PM & I have bubbly to open. I'll raise a glass to BOB for providing better entertainment tonight than anything Times Square has to offer. :)

Until it's proven otherwise, I'm going in with the theory that O'Brien demanded Joyner's contract not be renewed and that a new AD was brought in. He did so on behalf of the majority of the Athletic Dept and even though they may have caved on his salary and other demands, Ira and the boys weren't willing to give up Joyner.

If these negotiations were in deed hot and heavy over the last 48 hours, then Penn State failed to do what it took to sign him, period - and that includes getting rid of Joyner. Some may balk at a HC having that much power, but you're all missing the point if you think this was just a position OB had. Joyner is absolutely loathed by the varsity coaches and student athletes.

This sums it up better than anything else...

O’Brien’s ire also was raised that day by my suggestion that a faction of Joe Paterno-era loyalists seemed to me to be miffed by Vanderlinden’s departure or dismissal, depending upon their view, and that they might want some sort of explanation. The former linebackers coach had been the second-longest-tenured member of the staff, dating to 2000, one of only two remaining staff members hired by the legendary coach. This really got O’Brien going:

“You can print this: You can print that I don’t really give a ---- what the ‘Paterno people’ think about what I do with this program. I’ve done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I’m tired of it.

“For any ‘Paterno person’ to have any objection to what I’m doing, it makes me wanna put my fist through this windshield right now.”

I'm not kiddingReply
You're an a-1 ass. Italians are better coaches and players. Paterno, Lombardi. Irish are unruly.

Sure, that's not a boring reply - seriously you watchReply
And best players are always Slavs and Italian last names (outside of qb) - you rarely see Irish names. Same with coaches. Don't let PC be a shortcut to actual critical thinking.

Dummies name call dummyReply
That'd be fine and you'd have to pick up your teeth but I'm not Slav or Italian, I just know from decades of football that you see about a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio of Italian and Slav names to Irish ones. And the same for coaching, at least the good ones.

JoePa from heaven looking down....Reply
Sorry Christian, sorry Adam, sorry all PSU football team members. Really thought this "coach" had PSU as his first priority. apparently all this "coach" had was the almighty buck as his priority. Worst of luck BOB, a complete a$$.

Oh, that's right, it's all about Paterno's 'legacy'....well I guess you can say that - Pedterno's legacy now is all about success while covering for a pedophile

OBrien had a really tough time living in Paternos legacy.Reply

To think that less than one month before he is gone that he is leaning on a crack reported like Jones is amazing. And he mentioned the Paterno people? Says a lot. He is fortunate to have high caliber kids when he joined the program.
