Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

A moment of prescience amid a sea of genuflection to dear leader...

I think we are in the minority here. People can't separate the current PSU football team from Joe's situation. That's the problem. THere is a divided fan base and I'm sure the problem exists at the university. Anyways, the next coach short of it being Paterno or Bradley will have to put up with the same stuff.

Is O'Brien a dick? Well, if as the reports go, he was telling kids as recently as this week that he wasn't going anywhere...yeah, he's kind of a dick. But, those kids are getting valuable life lessons. In the cut-throat world of big time college football, most coaches' word is worth about a pack of juicy fruit. As the saying goes-- you commit to the school, not the coach. That's the way it goes.

There was a thread on there earlier with posters legitimately saying they need to open up the check book and go after Meyer and Saban. They really do believe that they're still one of the premier jobs in college football. Pre-scandel, you may have been able to make that argument. IIRC, Urban may have had legit interest in succeeding pedterno. But, that scandel brought to light what a currupt, backwood cultish freakshow that university is. And even after all the sanctions, it's still a circus.

There's almost zero chance they ever get to the level they feel they deserve. Like they were in the 70s and 80s when dear leader ran roughshod over a cupcake schedule with hand-selected officials. Even if they get a hot young coach, if he won big there, he's be plucked from them by the NFL or an actual "elite" job.

Most residents of Jonestown still thought Jim Jones was a god and they were in paradise, right up until they started passing out the Kool Aid.

I understand taking advantage of opportunities, etc... (and I honestly don't care, because it's not our problem), but this is a total dick move. Absolutely no class at all. O'Brien's a huge dick.
Another viewpoint is that they hid the full impact of this debacle from him, until he was committed to the job publicly. I sure wouldn't want to coach in that nutty place. They need to see that nobody really wants the job, then the cult will finally be quietened a bit.

No way. They'd just blame it on anti-paterno factions on the BOT and the school pres sabotaging what dear-leader built.

Sadly, some of them continued to think so while they drank the Kool Aid. Some people never learn.

'cause, under the circumstances, you'd sure think PedState currently qualifies as post-Kool Aid.

I say pay Franklin anywhere up to 6 mil/year for 5 years of guaranteed money (even if he were to be fired)....with a buyout clause that is so stiff that nobody would even think of paying it. Might not sound practical, but if this recruiting class goes down the crapper we will be back to square one talent-wise next year..

These people are just plum-dumb. I think Franklin could be a helluva coach. But, he hasn't proven a whole helluva lot really. So, yeah...throw $30M guaranteed at him!

Nominate Your Next Head Coach

Some gems in this list including Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, Jimbo Fisher and Jim Tressel. I did appreciate the guy who chose Lou Diamond Phillips. 8D
No Urb or Saban? These guys are pikers. N/M, somebody mentions Saban.

There were also two people that mentioned Mike "Anabolic" Mauti...and were serious.

This guy wins the thread:

Alright, which one of you BP upstarts are looking to make a name for yourself? I think it's time for an enterprising young poster to take the baton from Tug Speedwell and Sekrah. These freaks are vulnerable, slow, and gullible. It's time to become an "insider" and start feeding them "information." Just remember to punctuate your posts with FAX and EVIDENTS!
