Wow....uh, wow. A whole gamut of emotions on this thread. I don't pretend to know anything about what is going on here, more than I have read on the threads. Personally, I'll leave the heavy hitting to the people who are on the inside of the issue and who devote a whole lot of energy and resources to make this board work. I try and help out where I can, but my relatively meager contribution was/is confined to the Game Previews during the season. I think/hope it helped out 3yards and the crew when they needed it, and I really enjoy doing it, but compared to them, I have no place to speak in depth about this particular topic, so I won't.
All I can say is that I was finished with message boards when BN went, in my opinion, downhill sharply in recent years. After I slaved through grad school at Ohio State, I was ready to leave that part of my life behind me and move on. Then I happened upon this site, and everything changed. There were fans here of all ages, who appreciate not on the product on the field, but in the classroom, and also the history of the program, the older players, the other Buckeye sports programs, and everything else I enjoy talking about. There is a forum for civil discussion about other topcics and <gasp> politics to boot. This is really the only message board I post on, and I have had countless positive interactions with so many of you here. Adjusting to a new state and a new job, and suffering through my mother's bout with cancer with her have made for a difficult 18 months for me, but this board has always been a place to break up a mundane day and find a reason to laugh, smile, or get riled up when necessary, and for that I appreciate everyone I have interacted with immensely. I never had any problems with any of the people who have started the new site, and I wish them all the best. But for the camraderie, community, and sense of (forgive me ladies) brotherhood that one gets from this site, there is nowhere else to be, and nowhere else to go. Because of this, BP will never be diminished in any way, because of a pay site, a complimentary site, a copycat job, or anything in between. It's not just putting time into features: it's knowing one can come here to commiserate, ask a question, debate a topic, get opinions, find ideas, analyze games, or just talk to people, anytime, who share a common passion. Nothing beats that....and nothing can.
