Premium Boards
In the wake of a new OSU board, I am dissappointed in the approach they have taken. Which leads me to this post. Who are these people (not only the new board) and why are they being paid. It is their profession? maybe... they are "experts".... self proclaimed. Let me give a little story... back when i was a high school senior I was able to partake in an internship program that abled me to get closer to OSU recruiting then most have ever been. As a senior I had a one semester internship with the Ohio State Athletic department, 6 weeks of this were spent with Coach Bill Conley, the then recruiting coordinator and defensive ends coach. It was an unbelieveable expirience, because I was given complete access to the WHAC and everything in Coach Conley's office. I've seen what goes on behind the seens... from the "big board" to hidden rooms in the WHAC. Anyway, my whole point being is, that many times a lot of blind trust is put in the hands of so called experts, whose sources are secondary sources or menacing phone calls. The logistics to a recruiting class are pretty basic at tOSU, they'll land 80% of who they want in state and finish off with about 30% of who they want OOS. Everyone that comes to these sites definetly enjoy the excitement in what recruiting has become... but the the buisness side of it is out of control. There are at least 6 OSU websites out there, many of which use each others leads to create stories. And now we have a new site, maybe two weeks old... that right off the bat hits you up for money, with out even giving you an idea of what you get for the price. It may have some "good posters" that are connected with it, but the freedom of conversation has turned to how can we make money off of the Ohio State craze. Buckaholic aka Kyle S Lamb, is now a premier writer for another site, and I watched him lead the Malik Hairston roller coaster ride last year...which ended with a big crash. False hope.
I've considered minding my own buisness and letting things be as they are, cause I will take flack from some. But this is how I feel. The inital surge at the wallet dampens what is an exciting time for many Ohio State fans. Am I cheap for not wanting to pay, no... I read the Arizona Republic, foxsports.com, and the great Buckeye Planet everyday without signing up for news. The point is that they find ways, so everyone can enjoy the information together and the excitment around sports, without turning you upside down and shaking your pockets. It is what it is.
