BII/SGN Clarification -- Open Letter (Merged)

Okay, I have avoided posting anything about the new site up until now but after yesterday I cannot hold back...for the first time I was actually pretty annoyed with SGN in the wake of the news being reported by BSB that Henton had committed. Someone directed me over to the SGN frontpage to see the news headline about Henton. They have since taken down the blurb where they had confirmed that Henton had in fact not committed, but for anyone that saw it while it was up, you can agree about the way in which they blew a ton of sunshine up their own ass for supposedly having the news of the Coleman verbal first or being the first refute the rumor that Henton had verbally committed, while at the same time taking a few shots at the other rival pay sites...I for one thought that was pretty classless. I know that when you enter the world of running a pay site, it goes from "show friends" to "show business", but I thought that was just in poor taste. Glad to see someone at least had the sense to take that news blurb off of their frontpage.

I received a pretty good PM today concerning this thread. The key word in that PM was "insignificant."

I agree.

BP will be here...and it will be 100% free and it will belong to ALL of us.

You guys and gals are my friends...I would never put a price on that friendship nor on our mutual love for all things Buckeye.

You are appreciated, you are always welcome here, and you will always be the reason for this site's success.

Thank you all.

There is really nothing left to say on this subject besides all of us rehashing the same old venom. Let's lock this thing down and roll on...

No need to worry about things that are insignificant...

Premium Boards

In the wake of a new OSU board, I am dissappointed in the approach they have taken. Which leads me to this post. Who are these people (not only the new board) and why are they being paid. It is their profession? maybe... they are "experts".... self proclaimed. Let me give a little story... back when i was a high school senior I was able to partake in an internship program that abled me to get closer to OSU recruiting then most have ever been. As a senior I had a one semester internship with the Ohio State Athletic department, 6 weeks of this were spent with Coach Bill Conley, the then recruiting coordinator and defensive ends coach. It was an unbelieveable expirience, because I was given complete access to the WHAC and everything in Coach Conley's office. I've seen what goes on behind the seens... from the "big board" to hidden rooms in the WHAC. Anyway, my whole point being is, that many times a lot of blind trust is put in the hands of so called experts, whose sources are secondary sources or menacing phone calls. The logistics to a recruiting class are pretty basic at tOSU, they'll land 80% of who they want in state and finish off with about 30% of who they want OOS. Everyone that comes to these sites definetly enjoy the excitement in what recruiting has become... but the the buisness side of it is out of control. There are at least 6 OSU websites out there, many of which use each others leads to create stories. And now we have a new site, maybe two weeks old... that right off the bat hits you up for money, with out even giving you an idea of what you get for the price. It may have some "good posters" that are connected with it, but the freedom of conversation has turned to how can we make money off of the Ohio State craze. Buckaholic aka Kyle S Lamb, is now a premier writer for another site, and I watched him lead the Malik Hairston roller coaster ride last year...which ended with a big crash. False hope.

I've considered minding my own buisness and letting things be as they are, cause I will take flack from some. But this is how I feel. The inital surge at the wallet dampens what is an exciting time for many Ohio State fans. Am I cheap for not wanting to pay, no... I read the Arizona Republic, foxsports.com, and the great Buckeye Planet everyday without signing up for news. The point is that they find ways, so everyone can enjoy the information together and the excitment around sports, without turning you upside down and shaking your pockets. It is what it is.

Many thoughts in response to that thread....

... I dislike the internet and what it has done to recruiting, however it is inevitable that the trend will continue. I won't name names, but one site seemed to stick tape recorders in everyone's face. Too often stories are made rather than reported.

... the reason they charge a subscription is b/c it does take time, money and resources to collect info, pictures and video and host them all... when they could be working elsewhere. It's definitely your choice to decide you do not need that info badly enough, or that the site did not sell itself well enough.

... i love this site and its collection of posters. There are plenty of reasons to visit this site before the others, such as the video/graphic/open discussion forums... However the reason most of us get hooked on BP is it is an easy place to follow the basic details of any recruit as well as information that gets leaked from outside sources. There are a number of great commoners that have inside info from time to time on BP, like Honor&Glory, but the recruiting forum wouldn't be very useful without the other sites spending resources on those updates & articles.
