Big Ten Championship Game

I pray they don't have it in Chicago. I have no interest in the entire midwest seeing what a disgrace it's greatest city has for a football stadium. Indy's new stadium really stands head and shoulders above the other venues.

Any thought to rotating it between the 4 largest stadiums in the conference?

OSU, PSU, UM, and Nebraska right? Spilt the field down the middle in terms of tickets and have at it.
That way you are playing outside and the stadiums can accomodate plenty of fans.

Just thinking outside the box - might not be the most fan friendly of options.

Actually I think the highest ranked team (BCS standings after the last conference game) of the two division winners gets the championship game in their stadium. At least one team's students/fans should be rewarded by not having to fork out "big bucks" to travel to a neutral site, etc. However, I know they will never do this since it won't make as much $$$ for the Big 10.

It's obvious that playing at Lucas Oil Stadium meets the geographic and indoor priorities that many of the conference AD's will probably focus upon... but if the conference were to play the game outdoors i honestly think that renovated Lambeau is the best outdoor venue available in Big Ten country. I was lucky enough to attend the buckeye-badger hockey game there a few years back and was blown away by what Lambeau had to offer.

But there aren?t enough hotel rooms? Not true... if Green Bay and the nearby Fox Valley enough hotels rooms available for the NFC championship games then i am pretty sure that there are enough rooms available for the Big Ten championship game. Plus, look at the attendance of other conference championship games out there today? typically; many fans take a pass on traveling to conference championship games in order to save their money to travel somewhere warm for the upcoming bowl game.

But there aren?t any entertainment options available? Who cares... if you are traveling to a Midwestern city in December to watch you team play in the championship, do you really care if there isn't a local symphony or art gallery to visit before your tailgate? I don't think the lack of entertainment options is a problem for the type of visitor a college football game would bring in.

Where is this game actually going to be played though? Think about the Big Ten basketball tournament... it has always been played at a NBA type facility in a geographically located in a central location like Indianapolis or Chicago. I honestly think that the rest of the Big Ten AD's will agree with Gene Smith and play the game at a place like the Lucas Oil Stadium and I would be shocked if it ended up anywhere else.

What percent of the people attending the NFC championship games need hotel rooms?

Sorry, Cleveland really doesn't bring anything to the table that Detroit, Pittsburgh, or Minneapolis don't. The only way I can see justification for Cleveland is as part of a rotation through various NFL cities in Big Ten territory.

Other than the stadium itself, Lambeau is a horrible choice: hours away from any major airport, not enough hotel rooms, extremely limited entertainment options.

Either put the game permanently in Chicago (which is the obvious choice by all criteria other than stadium size) or rotate it among various NFL cities.

Have you ever been to Lambeau? If it's such a dump, why has it sold out for umpteen decades?

Based on the quality of the facilities, there are really only two choices: Lambeau and Lucas Oil. Ford Field just ain't all that.

Based on quality of facilities and helping the Big 10 win BCS bowl games it has to be Indy and Lucas Oil.

I know some of you die-hards want the championship game outside. If there was a cfb playoff I would also argue for the highest seeded team to host (until the final game) whether it be inside or outside.

But think about how people tell you to prep for big meetings, tests, etc.; you go to an environment that gives you the best prep. If the winner is going to the BCSNCG or at worst the Rose Bowl I would want to play in conditions as similar as possible. The only way to do that is with a dome.
