Big Ten Championship Game

Enjoy your stay at the Comfort Inn and fine meal at IHOP! And, Green Bay's not much better.
:wink2:

heisman is right. Our football stadium is a frickin' joke. It probably was the nail in our Olympic coffin.

They could have done it right instead of building that dispicable eyesore they've created--lipstick on a pig if you will (actually it was more like pig on some lipstick). I get the whole "poor experience" you think people will get in other places, but it's not like a final four or a conference basketball tourney, it's a one day event. I'll give you a ride to the game if you don't have a car. I know all my peeps in LP only know EL's and buses! :wink2:

What percent of the people attending the NFC championship games need hotel rooms?

Considering both the fact that the capacity of Lambeau Field is almost greater than the population of Green Bay plus the large amount of alcohol that is consumed by the average visitor... a surprising number of families, opposing fans and drunks demand hotel rooms in the area.

I was not aware of this. Thanks.

Hold it in Bloomington. It's not like the home team there will ever play in it.

Good point. And if the opponents are tOSU and either Nebraska or Wisconsin, IU can hope for good weather for that stadium (full of red) photo op.

typically; many fans take a pass on traveling to conference championship games in order to save their money to travel somewhere warm for the upcoming bowl game.

This is exactly why you wouldn't want to have it in Green Bay, you put it in Chicago and Indy where there is an actual population and the city is easy to actually GET to. While attractions might not be on everyones to do list, don't think that isn't factored in when you consider that a good portion of the crowd would be older folks with the money to spend on all these trips. (Which is the same reason it'll end up in Indy, they know that they'll be plenty of folks at plenty of schools that won't want to make the trip there to sit out in the cold)

In an interview on 97.1, a couple of days ago, Gene Smith said that he would prefer to look at indoor venues first, and that he would also prefer to not sign a long-term deal.

This makes the most sense to me in terms of preparing a team for BCS bowls. I do think cold-weather teams face a disadvantage come bowl season when they've been playing in sub 30 degree weather for as much as 2 months, and then face a team that has been playing in indoor/hot climates all season.

Based on quality of facilities and helping the Big 10 win BCS bowl games it has to be Indy and Lucas Oil.

I know some of you die-hards want the championship game outside. If there was a cfb playoff I would also argue for the highest seeded team to host (until the final game) whether it be inside or outside.

But think about how people tell you to prep for big meetings, tests, etc.; you go to an environment that gives you the best prep. If the winner is going to the BCSNCG or at worst the Rose Bowl I would want to play in conditions as similar as possible. The only way to do that is with a dome.

Having lived in the south for 13 years now, I'm always hearing how weather is such a big deal. That we don't want to let the weather affect outcomes (as if football is NASCAR or something). I've never been for indoor football, even in the pros. But this is a very good argument for holding the B10 CCG indoors. Pragmatic. I'm in.

I say we put it in Omaha .

Just kidding. Lincoln would be fine.
Welcome Sidehatch. As the football season approaches, and as a new member of the Big-10, I want you not to be concerned when the people around here talk about getting together to play "corn hole."

Colts' stadium is likeliest Big Ten title game spot
Josh Katzenstein / The Detroit News

In 2006, U-M football fell from No. 2 in the Associated Press poll to No. 3 at the end of the regular season without playing a game, costing the 11-1 Wolverines a shot at the national championship and vengeance against Ohio State.

Florida won the Southeastern Conference title game two weeks after U-M closed its regular season to jump the Wolverines in the polls, and now, with 12 teams in the Big Ten, many expect the conference to add a championship game to prevent a similar scenario.

One of the major topics expected to be discussed at the Big Ten media days that begin today will be the splitting of the 12 teams into two divisions and the possibility of a Big Ten championship game when Nebraska officially joins the conference in 2011.

Comments by Delany have this taking place in December 2011. Says they'll likely select a single site for a short-term contract and then review alternatives. Also said within 2-4 years we should be moving to 9-game conference schedule.
