No. 14 Indiana 83, Illinois 79, 2 OT -- Armon Bassett scored 11 of his 16 points in the second overtime and Indiana (19-3, 8-1) rallied to beat Illinois (10-14, 2-9) in a Big Ten game in Champaign, Ill.
Illinois' Calvin Brock had just converted a runner, cutting it Indiana's lead to 79-76, when the Hoosiers' Eric Gordon was called for a 10-second violation with 26 seconds remaining. The Illini's Demetri McCamey dribbled with ball off his knee and out of bounds.

A season such as this would have been unthinkable during Michigan's Fab Five days.

Instead of playing for a national championship, the Wolverines are struggling to get out of the Big Ten basement.

Tuesday's 65-55 loss at Ohio State was Michigan's sixth straight defeat. The Wolverines have lost nine of 10 league games and 17 of 20 overall since opening the season with wins over Radford and Brown.

A roster with eight underclassmen and just eight "true" scholarship players has made Head Coach John Beilein's first season challenging. The third-toughest schedule in the country according to the RPI rankings has not helped.

Associated Press

No. 24 Purdue 72, No. 8 Wisconsin 67 -- Freshman Robbie Hummel scored a career-best 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field last night and Purdue surprised Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., to extend its winning streak to nine.

No. 11 Michigan State 70, Northwestern 55 -- Drew Neitzel scored 13 of his 21 points in a four-minute span to help Michigan State (20-3, 8-2) rally past Northwestern (7-14, 0-10) in East Lansing, Mich.

Minnesota 63, Iowa 50 -- After scoring just three points in his previous four games combined, Al Nolen gave Minnesota (15-7, 5-5) a lift in the second half and finished with 11 points, eight assists and three steals against Iowa (11-14, 4-8) in Minneapolis.

Michigan 68, Penn State 63 -- Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims scored 16 points for Michigan (6-7, 2-9), which snapped a six-game losing streak by beating Penn State (11-12, 3-8) in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Shaping up to be an exciting finish. A lot of games left among the top 5 in the league. And there's not a huge talent gap among those teams.

Wisconsin and Purdue have the easiest schedules with both having trips to OSU and IU, and MSU at home, plus 4 against the bottom.

OSU has the next easiest with 3 of the 4 toughies at home. The trip to IU won't be fun, and none of the other 3 remaining road games are "gimmies" with this team.

Indiana is next. 5 tough ones, but 4 of those are at home. The 3 other games are on the road, but should be wins

MSU has the nastiest draw here, going on the road against each of the other top 5 teams, plus a visit from the Hoosiers.

PROJECTIONS:

Purdue: 5-2 (losses @IU, @OSU) - finish 15-3
Indiana: 7-1 (loss @MSU) - finish 16-2
Wisconsin: 6-1 (loss @IU) - finish 15-3
MSU: 5-3 (losses @Purdue, @IU, @Wisc) - finish 13-5
OSU: 4-3 (losses @IU, Wisc, MSU) - finish 11-7

I really wanted to give OSU the win against MSU to finish out the regular season, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. And lord knows there will be some upsets in this mix. Hopefully none involving OSU being upset. :)

First-place Boilermakers top MSU

Wednesday, February 13, 2008 From wire reports
Robbie Hummel scored a career-high 24 points and No. 19 Purdue beat No. 10 Michigan State, 60-54, in men's college basketball Tuesday night in West Lafayette, Ind.

E'Twaun Moore scored 12 points and Keaton Grant added 11 for Purdue, which won its 10th straight game to remain alone in first place in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers (20-5, 11-1 Big Ten) have won at least 20 games for the second straight year.
@StoryAd
Freshman guard Kalin Lucas scored a career-high 20 points for Michigan State, and Raymar Morgan scored all 12 of his points in the second half for the Spartans (20-4, 8-3).

Very good analysis on your part.

I know they get them at home but I really can't see Indiana beating Wisconsin, Purdue, and MSU in three straight games especially now with Sampson having some things:) on his mind.

I think we will take either Wisconsin or MSU at home. We really need to win one of those games to secure a tournament berth IMO and not lose any of our road games to lesser teams. Michigan and Minny really worry me. Hopefully, my worries will be unfounded.

Badgers visit Hoosiers in battle of ranked Big Ten foes

By Sports Network

The Sports Network

Two of the top teams in the Big Ten get together in Bloomington this evening, as the 13th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers play host to the 15th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers.
The Hoosiers have won three straight games to move to 20-3 overall and an impressive 9-1 in Big Ten play. Kelvin Sampson's team was in Columbus on Monday, getting by Ohio State in a defensive battle, 59-53.
The Badgers aren't far behind in the league standings at 9-2, but come into this game following a 72-67 setback to league leading Purdue last weekend. The loss was just the fourth this season for Wisconsin, and halted a three-game win streak for the Badgers. Indiana maintains a sizeable advantage in the all-time series with Wisconsin (94-56), but it is the Badgers looking for the regular season sweep, after knocking off the Hoosiers in Madison on January 31st, 62-49.

Big Ten Notebook: Boiling Big Ten
Purdue continues winning roll

By MIKE POPOVICH

Anyone waiting on Purdue's young players to feel the pressure of first place may be in for a long wait.

Wins over Wisconsin and Michigan State in a 72-hour span have the Boilermakers sitting alone atop the Big Ten standings. On a 10-game winning streak, Purdue looks a lot more like a league championship contender than the team that struggled to beat Lipscomb and lost to Wofford earlier in the season.

"We've come a long way in six weeks," Head Coach Matt Painter said after Tuesday's 60-54 win over the Spartans. "Our players understand that we can get beat by a lot of teams, but we also know that we can beat a lot of people."

The wins over the Badgers and Spartans marked the first time the Boilermakers have beaten top-10 teams in back-to-back games.

College basketball roundup: Late bank shot lifts Wisconsin

Thursday, February 14, 2008 3:37 AM

Associated Press

No. 15 Wisconsin 68, No. 13 Indiana 66 -- Brian Butch banked in a three-point shot with 4.5 seconds left, the last of Wisconsin's 11 threes, and the Badgers posted a Big Ten victory over Indiana last night in Bloomington, Ind. Butch had 13 points and four rebounds in a game the Badgers' guards dominated. Jason Bohannon scored 18 points, all on three-pointers, and Michael Flowers had 15, hitting three more threes for Wisconsin (20-4, 10-2).
Indiana (20-4, 9-2) was led by Eric Gordon with 23 points, but it wasn't quite enough on a night basketball was overshadowed by coach Kelvin Sampson's alleged off-the-court transgressions.

I'd be shocked if Bill Carmody isn't axed after this year
I do not understand why you say that. Northwestern is very limited in the type of athlete that they can bring in due to do their academics. Maybe you know something about Carmody than I do not put for the majority of games he seems to give other teams fits. It is almost harder to recruit at Northwestern for basketball than it is for football because you can cover some positions up in football whereas in basketball it's only 5 guys on the court.

Butch with a bank in 3 for Wisky to knock off IU @ Assembly Hall tonight...

Purdue sitting atop all alone right now...
They deserved to lose on a bank shot at home because Gordon beat them with a similar bank shot at Wisconsin.

I can't wait to get Purdue in the Schott:)
