I don't think the BigTen would've 'rescued' them in that scenerio. Delany still needs a linchpin in the BigXII 2.0. :sneaky:

Unless we've all been fed a mountainful of garbage (OK we HAVE been fed a mountainful of dis-information) I don't think there's any point in Delany trying to force UT's hand any further. UT had an opportunity to come to the B10...it was there for the taking and they passed. Unfortunately that means Delany will have to look East.

Just following up now that some information is coming to light...

- The numbers that Beebe threw out were a hope, and not based in fact.
- It was FSN that was involved in the extra money, yet that deal is a very small part of the B12 revenue. They needed to double their tv revenue to approach what Beebe was stating, but instead they got a 50% bump in their minor contract. No where near the money they were talking about.
- Beebe, his bullshit letters, the media eating up random reports, etc. were all just a smoke screen. The Pac 10 told Texas they could not have their own network (they refused to let Texas keep their local tv rights). Texas decided to turn down the Pac 10's offer due to that fact. That is all this is. The B12 did not come through with some amazing financials to save the day. Nothing has changed. All that happened is Texas turned down the Pac 10's offer because they want their own network, and the Texas lackeys followed suit (or the other offers were contingent upon Texas accepting).

So, what have we learned?

- Texas wants special treatment and will not join a league unless they get that special treatment. They would rather wallow in a weakened B12 than be an equal partner in a better league.
- Nothing in the B12 has changed except they lost Nebraska and Colorado. The revenue sharing is still unequal. The money is not different than what it would have been (that FSN contract was up soon anyway, and a 50% bump for a long term deal would have been expected). No matter how much the league wants to spin it, they are even worse than they were before. If the Pac 10, SEC, or B10 wanted any school not named Texas in the B12 they could have them.
- Missouri is not near the top of the B10's list.
- This isn't over. The B12 is still weak, and the Big East dominoes have not fallen yet. The Pac 10 accelerated the B12 stuff, but the B10 still may cause some issues out East. Should be fun.

Which begs the question, why did A&M back off of the SEC?

not sure about him, but i'd much rather bang her chubby friend.
She shares my interests, likes me how I am, brings home plenty of bacon herself and gets tougher in the cold winter not whinier. Yeah, I'm quite happy to steer clear of that knockout psycho down south.

In all seriousness, can you direct me to some sites that say that the TV deal absolutely doesn't exist? Not that I don't want this to be true...

Did the SEC back off A&M? I read on ESPN, which I know is not a reputable source, that Florida and LSU may have problems with A&M joining the conference.

Looking for the link if I can find it.

I'm not even sure the SEC actually offered. The SEC was probably just talking to A&M. I think the Pac 10 was the only one throwing out random offers which were contingent upon Texas accepting. It forced the B10's hand for Nebraska, and the Pac 10 got one school that didn't have that contingency. As much as people want to act like it was a free for all at one time, I am not sure any conference except the Pac 10 made kneejerk offers. I am willing to bet the only real offers on the table were the B10 to Nebraska and Texas, and the Pac 10 offers to Colorado and the Texas group.

From that link:

As part of its proposed deal, FSN has asked to take control of the conference's third-tier rights that are currently controlled by rights holders IMG, ISP and Learfield, sources said. These rights include radio, local media, third-tier TV rights, corporate sponsorships, and in-stadium and arena signage.

That's an interesting part of the agreement that many people are glossing over. Those rights, separate from any TV deal, are worth a significant amount of money for the bigger schools. OSU's deal with IMG for third-tier rights is worth $11 million/year. So by bundling the third-tier rights in with the 2nd-tier TV rights, the Big 12 schools are still coming out well behind.

Missouri boards were in meltdown mode at some of the rumors about how the new Big 12's pay structure was going to be but in the end those look to be nothing more than false rumors picked up and circulated through the media.

Right now all we know is
- Nobody has actually signed anything yet but are working together.
- Beebe supposedly has assurances from TV networks but no actual deal yet.
- Per several Big 12 AD's there isn't going to be a tier pay structure but instead the same revenue distribution the Big 12 has always had. Half the money from being on TV goes to the school that was on and the other half divided up among the conference with national games paying more then regional games.

While I would still prefer the Big Ten this isn't the end of the world if the new Big 12 can actually get a decent TV contract. I do actually like the 10 team set up.

The most important thing I have learned from following this whole process is not to trust any reporter who claims to have a source. More often then not it seems to be a bunch of B.S.

Also my honest guess is we haven't heard the end of super-conferences and expansion will pick up again at some point. Whether that is this year, five years from now, or ten years down the road who knows. It has been interesting following this whole process and reading everyone's thoughts on here. Best of luck in the future.

Longhorn Theory: There never was any sincerity behind SEC's offer. It was all a ploy to--on the part of the SEC, ESPN and CBS--kill a Pac 16 with a Fox sponsored network. Once that was blown up, SEC backed off their courtship of Aggy. Long story short: Aggy's little man complex and need to get out from under UT's shadow screwed up the great thing that Texas had organized for the Big 12 South teams.

Aggy Theory: Texas screwed up the Pac 16 scenario, first with their ploy to get Baylor into the mix and finally with their 11th hour demands for special treatment and Bevovision. When this happened, Texas--who was already nervously looking over their shoulder at the prospect of the SEC getting a recruiting pipeline into Texas--backpedaled and repositioned themselves as the savior of the Big XII at the same time calling in all their political chits to make sure Aggy had to stay around and be part of it.

Contrary to some reports, Beebe said no TV deal for the conference had been reached, but did point out he "got verification from consultants that we are in a tremendous position to reach agreements to put us on par with anyone in the country."
NewsOK

The big news coming out of today's session was that there is no actual new television agreement, just a goal of getting a new contract with broadcast partners FOX, ABC and ESPN.
