If tOSU were doing similar, I wouldn't want Warren to know.

tOSU pays tOSU people big money to take care of tOSU business. And if that tOSU business requires deceiving Kevin Warren, then I hope tOSU has hired people capable of doing just that.

Agreed.

And... on your last point? Based on evidence on the table, I don't think that tOSU would have to work very hard to find people capable of deceiving KW.

Edit: It seems as though a few others agree with my statement above. Not a surprise. LOL.

Also, to clarify, when I said "our leadership" I was speaking of B1G leadership. Not tOSU.

That said, I'm also coming to this from the perspective of tOSU being best off in the B1G... so I frankly had not considered this from a 'tOSU really considering bolting' POV. Were tOSU best served elsewhere -- and I do not think that they are at this point -- I would completely expect that tOSU leadership would keep Warren in the dark.

At what point do we just call it what it is and combine/rename the conferences the FOX conference and the ESPN conference?

Teams will only be permitted to schedule games with teams from the same master conference. (B1G / BigXII / PAC12) & (SEC / ACC)

And at the end of the season, we can hold s special Super Bowl Game where the FOX Conference Champion will play the ESPN Conference Champion.

Before this, I would have said it sounds nice but not likely.

Now, I can honestly see this being the very logical conclusion to the whole deal. ESPN's, now very public, involvement in this and the SEC's duplicity absolutely open the door, if not incentivizes, Fox and the rest of CFB to align out of self interest.

11W article this morning quotes new Pac12 commish who is rattling the saber on blocking CFP expansion now that it's clear the SEC wasn't working in good faith/parties had incomplete information.

He also comes out and says he didn't understand why there was such a rush to make a public statement about feasibility but now understands and thinks the way it was done is a "shame".

SEC and ESPN aren't getting any more professional courtesy from the other conferences from here on out and I think they've shot their wad way too soon.

Exactly what I've been thinking. Either they did a masterful job of keeping this secret for "6ish months", or they didn't do nearly as good a job as they thought they did and subsequently failed to get as firm an agreement on playoff expansion as they wanted before the other shoe (UT and OK) dropped. Honestly, I'm more inclined to think that other factors precipitated the dropping of the other shoe and they just didn't plan very well.

On the plus side (for ESPN/SEC), they can still have their cake and eat it too if everyone else screws the pooch badly enough. They've given everyone else plenty of reason to work together to screw the SEC; now they just have to swallow their pride and work together.

I was thinking this last night while watching Deace's "Bigger 10" on youtube. This is what it pretty much comes down to, right? ESPN v. Fox.

The other conferences can see with their own eyes that the ESPN/SEC team just killed another major conference with malice of forethought. They are actively trying to fuck over everyone else.

Shouldn't take too much ego swallowing to unite against that, very obvious, common enemy but who knows.

I liken it to a Pearl Harbor event. The Axis of evil just woke up the giant (hopefully).

PUMP THE BRAKES OF EXPANSION. The Big 12's slow and painful demise and the subsequent conference reorganization might have one major unintended consequence, putting the College Football Playoff expansion process on hold.

It has become clear, both to other college sports leaders and to anyone following the timeline of events closely, that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey was preparing to poach the Big 12’s crown jewel programs even as he worked alongside Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby in the four-person CFP working group that studied expansion options. It is also clear, now, that Bowlsby was unaware of what was in motion behind his back; he praised Sankey for supporting a 12-team model that would be “what’s best” for college football at large.

“It creates some concern about the way the 12-team proposal was constructed, with a limited number of folks in the room and imperfect information between the people who were in the room,” new Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff told The Athletic. “The proper process is: Everybody who has a say should have a say, and everybody should be operating with the same information.”

The CFP’s 12-year contract runs through the 2025 season, but the surprise announcement of a 12-team proposal last month led many to assume the four-team format would be blown up sooner than that. Now, momentum to make the change to the format before the contract runs out may be grinding to a halt.

...

“More importantly, I’ve yet to get an answer — although I think in hindsight I understand the motivations — about why we were rushing to get this out in June,” Kliavkoff said, “with Alston (the Supreme Court case) and NIL on the table and with no immediate next step in (the timeline for) expansion. There was, at the time, no understanding of why you needed to announce it in June.

“We mis-set expectations among our fans about how quickly this can get done. I think that’s a shame.”

Could it be that the conference's ADs and presidents didn't want to see another Jim Delaney around? It's nice to have someone YOU can push around and blame when things turn to shit.

Possible. Maybe even probable given Gene Smith's recent comments (Kevin Warren’s name was not on the list submitted to BigTen presidents by the advisory committee).

This is the problem that every corporation with an overweening board has. They want someone tractable for a leadership position. Usually the position is CEO, but the problems are the same. You're not going to get the leadership you need from someone tractable. If you think that having them simply serve as the conduit for your (the board's/committee's) leadership, then you're choosing to make the same mistake that untold thousands have made before you. That has been the downfall of many corporations. History is replete with the names of bad CEO's, but the names of the board members that hired the wrong person for the wrong reason are usually lost to history. In many cases, they're the real culprits.

I probably won't bother giving this much more thought though. I'm not in a position where I'll ever know the whole truth, much less a position to do anything about it.

Back to the world that I can affect...

To paraphrase Don Coreone: Sankey's a pimp. But I didn't know until this day that it was ESPN all along.

Someone who is an actual leader that can speak for the B1G needs to be telling the Pac 12 that should an honest conference like theirs make enemies, they would become the B1G's enemy........

Of course we have pre-traitor Fredo working as our bodyguard and fumbling for his fucking gun.

“Dear Bob: This responds to your letter dated July 28, 2021,” the letter from ESPN read. “The accusations you have made are entirely without merit. Apart from a single vague allegation that ESPN has been ‘actively engaged in discussions with at least one other’ unnamed conference which ESPN disputes, your letter consists entirely of unsubstantiated speculation and legal conclusions. To be clear, ESPN has engaged in no wrongful conduct and, thus, there is nothing to ‘cease and desist.’ We trust this will put the matter to rest. ESPN reserves all rights and remedies in connection with this matter. Sincerely, Burke Magnus.”

I would laugh my ass off if Bob has proof and was just baiting them into a public denial.

I'm thinking about this whole thing and how does he send the cease & desist without it. Something like actual communication records from one of the contacted schools either directly from espn or from the AAC mentioning espn's role in it. Otherwise, what the fuck was he thinking and where were the lawyers to stop him?
