It would be Prestige Motherfucking Worldwide. 6 major media markets (7 since you could basically add Vegas where Ohio State is already the top team), a football blue blood, a basketball blue blood, Nike U, 5 academically prestigious universities and a 6th that's at least decent and not in danger of losing its AAU membership, Olympic sports out the ass (we just sent our largest Olympics contingent ever at 26; Cal doubled that at 52).

Yep. If we are going with the approach of reorganizing the entire university alignment system I think this is far and away the best possible outcome and would be game, set match as far as conference re-alignment goes. It's just flat out over at that point.

That said, I still say just treat the football teams for what they are; a very lucrative NFL minor league system that people absolutely love to watch. The actual job to be done here is to evolve a new model of playing football, that will increase revenue and how it's divided up. Do that, take care of the athletes for what they provide and quit wasting resources trying to realign entire schools when they don't need to be realigned.

This all boils down to making the football pie bigger and how that pie gets divided up. Solve it from that angle and quit fucking about acting like these are normal students at your school.

The 4 Cali schools, Oregon and UW wouldn't be a self own (of all the proposals I've seen flying around).

We need to stand pat or go big. This notion of even considering WVU, KU, ISU, OSU-Lite or dare I say it Juggalo State sickens me to the base of my nuts. If we can't shake the earth by raiding what we want out of the ACC or merging with the best of the PAC (my preferred option) then just stand down.

agree with both of you

The wise courses of action are stand pat or go big

My prediction remains self ownage

WITH THE BIG 12 COLLAPSING, CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT IS THE HOTTEST TOPIC IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW

It is not exactly clear how Kevin Warren feels about this—or anything at all, really.... However, if Gene Smith's retweets are any indication, Big Ten ADs do not appear to be to keen on the idea of sharing the wealth with newbie Big 12 expats.

What did the Corleone family do after they locked up their home turf? Did they go South and get into the rooster fighting, moonshine and stock car racing businesses? Or did they go West and corner the market on Vegas casinos and muscling the Hollywood studios?

Sure, we might have to send Sparty to the bottom of Lake Tahoe, but that's a cost I'm willing to pay. It's nothing personal; it's just business.

i am laughing out loud with tears in my eyes at the thought of Sparty in a fishing boat the Al Neri and Brutus looking out the window.

What did they do? Well a certain someone had a snuff party turned bad and The Corleone family was fortunately to be in a position to “help” that certain someone.

I'm sorry @ORD_Buckeye, but the only way the PAC12 idea makes any sense is if football and possibly basketball is decoupled AND the rest of the still regional conferences stand pat on their existing non-rev and Olympic sports alignments. While yes basically all sports teams are doing some flying on a regular basis for conference competition, the PAC12 move for all sports would likely be too much of a travel expense hurdle for even a school like OSU (in my IMO of course). It is definitely the only actual power move in terms of actual expansion (assuming we couldn't steal the big ACC schools), but I have 0 confidence in Warren to either organize everyone else standing pat or a big move like that.

FWIW - I listened to Cowherd's podcast on my ride to work today and he mentioned he has several trusted sources in Southern California that indicated the B1G is going HARD at Southern Cal. He believes getting them into the fold makes it easier for ND to come on board.
I hope we aren't still making moves for ND, out white whale. You go after southern cal cause USC is a great program unhappy with it's situation and fits the academic profile despite being a private. Not cause you think it will get you ND at this point

Fuck the Domers, they had multiple chances already.
The Domers wanted to be in the Big Ten long before the Domers didn't want to be in the Big Ten, but that's another story for another day....

In any event, if football is ever going to go international like all of the other major sports (basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey), then the Domers with their strong Catholic profile would probably be the number one brand overseas (parts of Europe and especially Latin America). Just a thought....
