Sorry. I thought we were talking football.

We're talking about conference re-alignment and the lies ND fans tell themselves is certainly part of that.

This is wise and affords the higher rated team a leg up entering the upcoming 'playoff' format. This concept has been discussed at length in this thread, iirc. I suspect the Pac officials considered this angle when setting up this format.

MWest & PAC didn't think about the playoffs... it was ALL about getting butts in seats. PAC12 isn't known to have a big traveling fan base. So I tend to think they did the #1 seed having the home game more to get butts in seats.

They then screwed the pooch by allowing the network to push their CCG game to Friday afternoon.

As mentioned, this has already discussed at length, just seeing the MW take this step makes me question the B1G's decisions......

Yeah if anyone has a track record of making better business decisions than the B1G it's certainly that rag tag fugitive fleet. :so:

Snark aside I'm a fan of on campus CCGs too but I'm not getting my hopes up on it happening anytime soon (then again I'm also not quite ready to write off the Indy site as a failure after only two years).

Do people really think that's the cure for the B1G title game?

Nebraska travels as well as anybody, and they couldn't be bothered to go to Indianapolis.

My opinion: There's a gameday culture in the SEC that translates very well to the neutral-site format for their championship game. Since they were the first major conference with a championship game, that's the model that everybody has tried to emulate and none have approached the level of success of their event. The culture of B1G football is different. I think it is more closely tied to time and place, and to the campuses and grand coliseums and cathedrals to the game. The B1G championship game will always be sterile, soulless and a notch below until they figure out a way to tap into that sensibility.

Maybe, but to be fair I don't think this tells the whole story.

I'd say location has a heck of a lot to do with it.

Atlanta is the economic hub of the south, 5 million + in the metro area. I'd be willing to guess that a large number of the fans attending the SEC title game are transplanted alums from the various schools.

Indianapolis may be (roughly) the geographic center of the conference but it isn't much else. If Chicago had a dome and you put the title game there I'd bet you'd get a much better environment on average.

I mean in the end, most fans just don't have the means to go making a bunch of trips following their team and if you have the choice between them, not many people are choosing Indianapolis in December over Pasadena in January. This is where I think they dropped the ball with this whole neutral sight playoff bit. You are asking fans to go to a conference title game, then a semi final and then a final. I think these school presidents and AD's have gotten so used to milking this cash cow that the thought doesn't even cross their minds that most people just won't be able to do that.

And let's be honest about things. At that time of year, NASCAR is dormant, and the main cockfighting circuits (and best roosters) are on their Columbia and Central America tours. That doesn't leave a lot of high value entertainment options down there.

Anyone in the Midwest is a terrible idea unless Kansas ends up as number 20 or something like that.

ISU, KSU, etc are terrible adds.

Last I looked Notre Dame is still in the midwest...

I am still waiting on that Virginia invite that was supposed to come this week.

Yeah, doubt that will happen (the announcement). I bet any ACC school that will move will want to know what happens with the Maryland lawsuit... not the exit fee part, but the fact the ACC is withholding all TV revenue part. Once that is settled, I bet things will happen fast.

My source, who is a Buckeye fan on HuskerBoard, says that Virginia is in, signed, sealed & delivered. Meeting between B1G brass tonight, and confirmation later this week.

Delany is going to dismantle the ACC to try and force Notre Dame's hand with regard to joining a conference in football. Look for more ACC invites (UNC). Kansas might get an invite to trigger a Big 12 raid of FSU and Clemson.
