You need to look at the difference in research philosophies between Notre Dame and the B1G. There's a lot more Than just sports involved.

I think his point may have been if the B1G has UVA, UNC, Duke (and potentially Ga Tech while the Big XII is sure to add a few ACC schools of their own) staying in the ACC is no longer a viable option. That could lead ND to the B1G.

But $ is the overriding factor......even more than academics. The B1G has been
Courting ND for decades. ND brings huge $

You are vastly overrating money generated from athletics and money generated from research grants and endowments. There is no comparison between the two.

Here's an issue that I see that is a problem for Notre Dame joining the B1G. I may be wrong but it looks like a huge philosophical block to me.

Notre Dame?s research policy against the use of human embryonic stem cells

Add your schools. Agree that no B1G schools will play ND. Then, re-evaluate what ND is worth.
a) Michigan is already taking an ND hiatus

b) The other annual B1G schools are not an elite opponent for ND. They can do much better, even if it is nice having local games for their fans (who then give money to B1G schools that don't sell out normally).

A large motivating factor in ND joining the ACC as a partial member & agreeing to the 5 games annually is because they were having difficulty scheduling opponents later in the season. If conferences continue to grow and more move to 9 game conferences schedules that will make scheduling even more difficult for ND...especially if the top ACC schools get absorbed by other conferences.

An era of 'super' conferences is not one that makes life easier for ND as an independent.

Stem cell research is really little more than an excuse that was born when ND came very close to accepting membership into the Big Ten a little over a decade ago. It was pushed by those opposed to the move in order to generate an emotional response by the ND faithful. The reality is that ND already associates closely with schools that perform embryonic stem cell research & if they did enter the B1G the school would not be forced into carrying out research to which it is philosophically opposed (which was part of the claim by the anti-B1G propagandists).

Exactly. And let's not forget that after the domers rejected the Big Ten's offer of membership, they quietly (yet with sublime domer arrogance) petitioned the CIC for some form of adjunct membership.

All of the domers' excuses were bullshit meant to obscure the fact that they were vetoing the overwhelming wishes of their faculty in order to do what was best for the football program.

Lets say ND loses That School up North, MSU and Purdue. They can pick up a Texas, Clemson or Virginia Tech to replace them and still get big money.

NoSuch Dame is about history and echoes. You're forgetting that. They have zero history with Va Tech and Clemson and very little if any with Texas.

Then they have zero history of belonging to a conference. Therefore they will not join a conference. Thanks for summarizing this for us.

they're not gonna be able to schedule whoever they want anymore when these conferences expand..with B1G trying to go to 20, the SEC going to 18, schools aren't gonna schedule someone like ND in OOC, there's no reason to

They will join a conf

And when those other teams have 9 and possibly 10 game in-conference schedules, scheduling NoSuch Dame won't be a priority.

Do you honestly think that Clemson and Va Tech in the SEC are going to watch to schedule ND? :slappy:

And yes, NoSuch Dame has a cultural and historical tie to the Big Ten whether you or they like it or not. They have a protect football at all costs mentality that is JUST and I mean JUST short of that of the Pedsters in Rhythmic Slappy Valley

Mountain West announces divisions and championship game

The Mountain West Conference will be divided into two six-team divisions for football with the winners meeting in a championship game and play as one 11-team league in all other sports, the league?s athletic directors decided Tuesday during meetings in Denver.

The two divisions for football will be split geographically, with CSU and the other five schools within the Mountain Time Zone forming the Mountain Division and the six schools in the Pacific Time Zone forming the West Division. The winners of each division will meet in a championship game at the home stadium of the participating team with the highest Bowl Championship Series ranking. The first such game has been scheduled for Dec. 7, 2013.

Each team?s football schedule will consist of five games against the other members of its division, along with three crossover games against teams in the other division. This format, the athletic directors said in a news release, keeps intact all of the league?s traditional rivalries.

Mountain Division

CSU, Air Force, Boise State, New Mexico, Utah State, Wyoming

West Division

Hawaii, Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV.
