As much as I don't want to say it, if the B1G is willing to take Maryland, they would take Duke.

The 2 questions would be 1) is Duke a big enough brand to take the whole state of NC if they don't get UNC? Or 2) if they DO get UNC, would they take a second team from the same state in expansion? My thought is both would be no, but you never know what Delaney is thinking.

I think any of the three remaining BCS conferences on the east coast (B1G, SEC, BXII) would take Duke. The BB program alone has enough value to make them desirable.

I think ND would consider joining if we had Duke....then UVa and UNC....then call it a day

If the B1G adds UNC, then adding Duke would not add any more value. Once you add UNC, you have 100% of the North Carolina TV market. The only thing Duke will do is is suck revenue from the other schools. Adding Duke would be like building a McDonalds right next door to an already existing one. You are still getting the same customers, but now you have twice the expenses.

Not necessarily - remember part of the fun of the Big Ten Network is the giant F-U it gave to ESPN. Taking UNC and Duke under that umbrella would absolutely be a masterstroke against those cocksuckers in Bristol....

You are ignoring the other side of the value equation...the side that brought Nebraska into the conference.

Brand names have value nationally and not just in their home market.

Duke basketball is a brand name & in the eyes of casual fans Duke/UNC has become THE BB rivalry.

The B1G would also house the greatest football rivalry (UM vs. tOSU) and the greatest basketball rivalry (UNC vs. Duke) as well. There's unquestionable value to that, imo.

Either way I do think UVA is the next member of the B1G. Scuttlebutt is Miami to the Big XII could happen as well. It will be interesting to see what happens from there.

If 20 is the number, I'd love to see the B1G add:

UVA
UNC
Duke
Ga Tech
ND
KU

You have the undisputable best basketball conference (make no mistake basketball has been very successful for the BTN) and a helluva collection of the some of the most historical football names in the game. You'd also have everything from Minneapolis/St. Paul over to NYC/NJ down to Atlanta with everything in between covered. The greatest collection of land grand elite universities as well.

I doubt it happens like that, but it sure would be fun, imo.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't wait for UMD or Rutgers to knock off Ped State. The Ped State fanbase can't handle that and having two teams that Pedterno built his reputation on beating them in a conference they can't stand to be in is going to be AWESOME

Stop right there. It is not going to happen.

there's a much better chance now then there was 3 years ago...

With these conferences going to "superconferences" ND is gonna get left out, and down the road there's a good chance a playoff system will be in place where certain criteria's will have to be met such has winning a conf, and ND won't get special treatment, that's when they will have to join

ND will ALWAYS get special treatment.

There is actually a much worse chance now that they will go into a conference.

Since most of the major conferences have recently signed new TV deals worth at least 20 million annually to each school, expect NBC to match that to keep Notre Dame home games on the Peacock Network. At the very least, Notre Dame's new deal should exceed the $17 million per school the ACC is getting, but no one should be surprised if the new TV contract pays the Irish $25 to $30 million a year.

I would loved to be left out in the cold with $30 million a year.

But $ is the overriding factor......even more than academics. The B1G has been
Courting ND for decades. ND brings huge $

You need to look at the difference in research philosophies between Notre Dame and the B1G. There's a lot more Than just sports involved.
