I've been thinking UVA was the next school for a while now, I dunno if it'll end up being next week, but either way I think they end up in the B1G

It fits into what the B1G wants to do. Pick up large AAU members to bolster the research and academics. Also pick up flagship state universities to bolster TV sets(not ratings) for the B1G network. Virginia will pick up the DC market that Maryland does not. When Virginia goes to the B1G, the next domino to fall will be UNC.

The WV guys are worthless. Duke to SEC?

FWIW SEC insiders have said that Slive has coveted UNC & Duke as a package for awhile. It actually makes a good bit of sense. Would wrap up the state & would bolster the SEC weak spots (basketball & academic reputation). Now it remains to be seen if Duke could stomach giving up their deluxe apartment in the sky & moving into the starlight, starbright trailer park.

The really insane recent claim from one of them was that Illinois & Purdue had pressured Delaney to go after Georgia Tech instead of North Carolina.

I can't imagine Duke agreeing to join the SEC.....but stranger things have happened.

I wouldn't mind seeing Virginia, VaTech, GaTech, NC State join the B1G

What I'm afraid of is getting only UVa from that group and then settling for Syracuse, Pitt, and Boston College. But I guess that would have its merits too:

1. Own the Northeast markets
2. Awesome-er basketball
3. Hockey strengthens
4. Top lacrosse

And that's why I said what I said. I'm with you. Duke is the textbook definition on snobbery, from academics to athletics to general culture. I have a hard time believing they would hold their nose to join the SEC. That would be the equivalent of the B1G holding their nose and offering Oklahoma a seat at our table. I don't doubt that the SEC covets Duke. They would have everything to gain from that relationship. There's just no way that the feelings are mutual from Duke's point of view.

The WV guys got lucky predicting something early on from their "sources" that they are still living off of. They are just writing tall tales that sound good at this point. There is no one that has the ridiculous amount of sources that they say they do (Illinois and Purdue? Really?). There's no way their [Mark May]e is true.

As much as I don't want to say it, if the B1G is willing to take Maryland, they would take Duke.

The 2 questions would be 1) is Duke a big enough brand to take the whole state of NC if they don't get UNC? Or 2) if they DO get UNC, would they take a second team from the same state in expansion? My thought is both would be no, but you never know what Delaney is thinking.
