Too bad the name "Conference USA" is already taken.

"Four Corners Conference" imo

So it's official, the Big East will be adding Boise, SMU, UCF, Houston and SDSU.

ESPN showed a map with logos in some proximity to their college's location. San Diego State's logo was somewhere north of Malibu, UCF was straddling the gulf coast vertically near Tampa, and USF started in the middle of Florida and ended up in the Atlantic Ocean.

But they did have Boise State inside Idaho, so they had that going for them.

It's ironic that Chris Petersen was blasting the BCS as Boise State's powers-that-be were getting ready to join an AQ conference.

I guess I don't see what Boise thinks they're getting out of this deal.

They're making the schedule more difficult for themselves, particularly their own travel for conference road games, and are not likely to be picked as an at large just because they're now in a BCS AQ conference (See: Michigan St) if there are other 'brand names' eligible. They now lose access to the gravy Non-AQ provision.

Essentially, they've traded having to go undefeated to make a BCS bowl for having to go undefeated and win a more difficult conference to make a BCS bowl.

They must really believe they can win a national title, otherwise ... I don't see it.

Boise State is under the impression that moving to an AQ conference will help them to more BCS bids. Short of winning the conference, it won't. In fact, one could argue that the move will make it MORE difficult, because they lose the non-AQ clause. As we've seen this year and in the past, BCS bowls are going to take the schools that are the biggest draw, not necessarily the most deserving. Does Boise really think they are going to bring a lot of people to games and pull in a large national TV audience a la the bluebloods? No.

So they're basically relegated to winning the conference in order to make a BCS bowl. And they're kidding themselves if they think they'll be seriously considered for a national title shot when playing in that bloated joke of a conference. But go for it.

There is a substantial increase in television revenue from $1.2 million (in the MWC) per year to closer to $4 million per year. Plus the Big East is up for renegotiation in the next year or two and should increase their TV revenue.

As to traveling costs, SDSU and Boise St. fly to most of their games anyways... it was already a concern for the Rocky Mountain area. It may be cheaper to fly into Tampa (USF), Orlando (UCF), New Jersey (Rutgers), Houston and Dallas (SMU) than it is to fly into Ft. Collins, CO; Laramie, WY; or Albuquerque.
