An email from Bill Byrne (aTm athletic director) has leaked, detailing an insider's perspective on Texas (always referred to as lowercase "tu"), LHN, ESPN, and the NCAA. It doesn't involve anything that most skeptics haven't already kicked around, but it still looks pretty damning and further illustrates why aTm found their situation in the Longhorns' fiefdom to be untenable.

BYU football: Cougars, Big East haggling over TV deals?

PROVO ? Amid growing speculation and reports regarding BYU's potential move to the Big East Conference , conflicting stories continue to arise, including one that says the Big East rejected the latest proposal by BYU.

Big East and BYU officials are not talking publicly about the negotiations.

This past weekend, John Hitt, president of Big East candidate Central Florida of Conference USA, told the Orlando Sentinel there is "frustration" over hang-ups in TV contracts involving potential invitees like BYU.

..../snip/...

Yes Virginia, the University of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints really is a pain in the ass to deal with.

Oliver Luck of WVU slams Big East

West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck delivered some pointed comments toward the Big East on his way out of the conference, saying his school was "fortunate" to get out of the league and join the Big 12.

Luck told the Charleston Gazette over the weekend that his program was leaving the Big East "when the ship was seriously going down. I mean, only the tip of the sail was showing."

Re: "BYU officials rejected the reported deal," said Williams. "The Big East and the BYU lawyers keep working on a deal. ? Both sides want a deal and are working to get it done. That is where it is now.

"BYU was insisting on two things that would never be agreed to by the Big East: (1) BYU wanted to retain the television rights to all BYU home games, and (2) BYU wanted the ability to leave and take all its television rights with them if the Big East lost AQ status, even if the Big East lost it because AQ status was eliminated," the source told the Deseret News.

and

"BYU has been accepted by the Big East members in a preliminary vote, with San Diego State as a backup ready to go," Williams continued. "They are keeping everything quiet in hopes of getting a deal done within 10 days or less. If it can't get done, then San Diego State is in."

Give me a brake here, San Diego State to the Big East. At least BYU was East of something (i.e. like California ). Who failed geography in that conference? Why don't they just rename the conference "A Dozen Teams No Other Respectable BCS Conference Would Even Consider Taking Conference"?

I'll say, I'd be pretty excited for an SDSU-Big East invite. Obviously they are going for a decent sized school, in a recruiting hotbed, in a large market.

To me, it's unfortunate that a 2nd league in the West couldn't be established. But if the Big East adds that Western division (Boise, Air Force, SMU, Houston, BYU whatevs) that'd be ok I guess.

Strange world.
