Kids love him, though. Not sure what the connection is, but my daughter thought he was the best thing about Husker sports when she was young.

Lil Red means nothing to me. But SO MANY people hate him. It's weird.

Big East Expansion - BYU Possibly On Board

.../snip/...

First, the Salt Lake Tribune is now reporting that BYU will accept a football-only invitation to the Big East and will possibly announce it by the end of the week. The paper's official Twitter feed tweeted this new here. Adding BYU as a football only member is a nice boost in what will be a "western" division likely to also feature Air Force, Houston, SMU, and Boise State. An agreement to join the conference for football means that conference has also likely smoothed over whatever broadcast issues there are with BYU's network deal worked out when the team announced it would be an independent and leave the Mountain West Conference last year.

SEC to 16?

.../snip/...

(Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor) Williams also told the board committee that the Southeastern Conference, which recently admitted the University of Missouri and Texas A&M as members, would probably expand by two more schools in the coming few years.

The addition of Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC will result in the refiguring of Vanderbilt sports teams schedules starting next year, he said.

.../snip/...

There is also some good info regarding potential NCAA athletics reform.

Since it hasn't been posted... Purple Book Cat from a couple days ago:

Expansion Update re: Notre Dame
The Big East's recent moves to expand its own membership have lessened the value of that conference affiliation to Notre Dame. The Big Ten is considering how it might accommodate Notre Dame on a transitional basis for one or two years prior to full conference memberships.

Three specific one to two year transition period scenarios under discussion include: 1. ND to the Big Ten as a hockey only member; 2. ND to the Big Ten in all sports except football; 3. ND to the Big Ten in all sports except football and basketball

Separately, the administration is glad that Missouri and A&M joined the SEC. Another meeting between officials from Texas, ND, and the Big Ten is expected to take place early in the new year. The expected timelines for Texas and ND to join as full members remain the same.

anyways...
