WVU?s move to the Big 12 has hit a snag.
As of late yesterday afternoon, WVU had received a verbal invitation to the Big 12 and had accepted. Plans were in the works for a news conference Wednesday to make the announcement.

But sources say the process hit a "bump in the road" last night. WVU was apparently notified by the Big 12 that it needed "more information" from WVU and that there would be a vote by the Big 12 Board, perhaps on Monday.

There is speculation that the "bump" was a push by Louisville.

The Dominion Post's Drew Rubenstein reports that there was a "late push" by the University of Louisville to be considered instead of WVU.

"Sources used terms like 'volatile' and 'internal battle' to describe the conference realignment with the Big 12," Rubenstein reported.

Last night, WVU called off preliminary plans for a press conference today.

"Contrary to media reports, there is no press conference scheduled for Wednesday concerning WVU?s athletic conference affiliation. There are no further comments at that time," the statement said.

Fuck Notre Dame. I don't want them in the B1G anymore.

I want to hate them in our conference. I don't have any great reason for it other than they seem like they are supposed to be here.

If we expand, my dream scenario, which will never happen, would be the University of Chicago stepping up to the B1G also. They are too far away though. D3 I think?

If it went to 16, add Rutgers and another team and be done with it. It baffles me why Rutgers doesn't have a following. It has all the tools. Maybe we could pump it up.

I wouldn't mind adding another inter-regional team for the other piece, even from the MAC.

Listening to the tejas sports guys selling this as a great thing for UT is hysterical. You can tell they've never been to Morgantown... they were talking about how much they love Bobby tHuggins how this is a great move for the Big 12... yeah recently TCU & WVU have been better.... in the long run ... you gotta wonder once all these schools get a look at the non revenue sports expense to travel these place if it will make sense in a year when the Big 12 missile crisis part 3 starts up. I know Tejas just wants more patsies in the league so keep the automatic birth.

I want to laugh at them in the conference.

"You guys lost to Indiana...again?!?!"

Think the fact they have consistently sucked for decades in every sport they field might have something to do with it?

No.

Doesn't Missouri have to actually leave first?

Reports I've seen have stated that the WVU move to the Big XII could happen regardless of what Mizzou does.

If Mizzou ended up staying, they'd look to add BYU or Louisville as the 12th team, which would allow them to have a CCG again. Of course, they'll probably try to add both of them if Mizzou leaves.

WVU OR Lousiville rather than AND Louisville seems to imply they're aiming to stop at ten members.

I'm not buying that, especially since the WVU was said to be OK even if Mizzou stayed.

They'll want the money and attention that a CCG brings.

That's the key. They really want that CCG. Don't let any posturing say different.

I think BYU ends up there soon, anyway. I don't buy for a second that BYU's independence is a permanent thing, nor do I think they want to remain independent.

Right now the Big XII is:

Texas
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
Baylor
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State

Coming in: TCU

Possibly going out: Missouri

Possibly coming in: Louisville/West Virginia - BYU?

Keeping the current gang intact, plus adding TCU means nine teams (not counting Missouri). If Mizzou stays they have ten, then they can add their choice of WVU/Louisville and BYU, and get back to their CCG they love so dearly.
