I agree with HL. I don't see any way Texas would not be included in a 4X16 mega conference system. I think they'll be their own worst enemy when that time comes, however. If it's true, and I think it is, that UT was simply negotiating its best deal for Texas, the short term benefits could A) bulk up the coffers for a few years until they are "forced" to play ball on "equal" terms, or B) cost them in the long run

I figure it's more like A.

New to this board and thread, but as a longtime Husker fan have been following this all VERY closely the last few weeks.

Of course no one is saying that Texas ends up sitting on the sideline while the rest of the landscape heads toward super conferences and a playoff. They're certainly a desirable institution to any conference, and aren't dumb enough to sit on the sidelines of their own accord. But I think its also VERY obvious that no top-tier conference will accept Texas on the terms that they tried to negotiate this time around - unequal revenue distribution AND retention of their own media network/rights. Should the landscape head in that direction, Texas will be forced to become just a little more humble and accepting of "equal" status in a conference, rather than being able to run one and dictate unequal terms and revenue split.

It's only June -- damn it -- and if negotiations are still open as BB73 and his PCV valve seem to indicate we still have much more to discuss.

If, on the other hand, all the cards have been played I just want to state that it was great to have High Lonesome back on the board. If you see X-Ray Randy anywhere tell him we're still laughing.

I actually saw "raydog" on an arizona state board durring all of this. I could be wrong but I think that x-ray and raydog are one in the same. I had a good laugh, he was still spewing the same crap

I don't think any huge penalty on leaving the Big Ten in the future has recently been agreed to by teams like Mizzou and Kansas, and they'd be nuts to sign something like that. There is the existing Big XII penalty, which I believe is 50% of the revenue split if a 2-year notice is given - that % will be higher for Nebraska in 2010/11 since they only gave 1 year's notice.

One other thing should be mentioned re: Texas. They're on top now; they may not remain on top in the future. Remember the days of David McWilliams and John Mackovic? Texas sucked. If they begin to suck again, they will regret spurning the Big Ten's generous offer.

A poor decision by Texas IMO, and frankly I'm surprised by it.

So PBC is allowed to post again without any potential trouble? I love reading his stuff, but the on-again/off-again posting has made me take his stuff more in stride.

But I'd love to get that group of four.... well, I'd trade Mizzou for Maryland if possible but I understand the need to have some sort of school closer to the Texas two.

This is just thinking out loud, not real optimism or conspiracy theory, but...

...isn't UT perfectly positioned to do whatever it wants at this moment? UT just stood up and became the "savior of the B12" (despite some grumbling about the terms), so it looks great amongst its mid-country brethren. Now if this non-existent TV deal falls through due to...well, not ever existing... the conference can re-dissolve, and Texas can go wherever it wants. UT now knows that it can likely go without Baylor and no one would care... without aTm, which wants to go to the SEC anyway... and would only have to figure out how to get rid of TT, which was hesitant about towing the UT line about the TV deal...

If this mythical deal does work out, UT gets rich AND powerful and has time to reassess its future options, all while collecting fat, stupid checks...

I know your bustin my balls Maxbuck but in reality...the better the product the better the ratings. Plain and simple...those projections are nice and those markets are big but if the product sucks nobodys gonna watch no matter whos playin. No degree in Marketing just using common sense.
