No the big 12 hasn't been around long but it still felt like home. the big ten or pac whatever just isn't really the same...

change is good and in this case needed...i just really hope things like the aTm thanksgiving game and Red River Shootout don't get messed with.

With A&M moving with Texas, I don't see either game being an issue. One would be a conference game, and the other would be one of the 3 or 4 non conference games. I think it actually works out perfectly.

I can't imagine the B 10 league office would be dumb enough to screw w/ those two games.

What is the general reaction to this down there?

I think that most people are excited. All of my friends are of the opinion that Texas and aTm should relax, open up a nice bottle of scotch, light a cigar and watch the rest of them run for cover while we pick the best option at the end.

whats the point of getting in a big damn rush

The league office has tried to manufacture a big rivalry game between Sparty & PSU to end the season, I'm positive they'll adore a real rivalry like Aggy.

yeah, Ohio State vs. Michigan is almost sure to take a hit from all of this (if true), but having the top six all time winningest programs in the same conference is worth a little bit of sacrifice

I am curious if they go to 16 if they can have two leagues of 8 that basically function independently, throw in an extra out of conference game per year to accommodate things like the Red River Shootout, and have a championship game at the end of the year

the Big 12 certainly fit together regionally, but a sub-conference of 8 that included Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue/Indiana, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, and Missouri wouldn't be all that bad in terms of regional "fit"

edit: I forgot about Wisconsin, but however it works out, you get the idea

I honestly doubt they'd screw with the Ohio State-Michigan game... You can't mess with a rivalry that's competed against the likes of Yankees-Red Sox, Alabama-Auburn, and Army-Navy....

Texas and OU played out of confrence before the big 12 and can do it again.

I just always feel better when the dust has settled

104.9 ESPiN Radio, Chip Brown sticking to it that UT has no clue about that KC story, he's still on the PAC-16 tip. Also Kansas AD resignes at end of 2010-2011.

Chip actually does have some pretty good sources(he is a former news paper guy) but after he went on Sports Center yesterday I doubt he will be kept in the loop as closely until this thing ends.

no one wants to show all their cards till they have to

The split would likely be...

Nebraska - Iowa
Wisconsin - Minn
Missouri - ILL
Texas - Aggy

Ohio St - Michigan
Penn St - Mich St
Indiana - Purdue
NW - ND / Rutgers

We had two years of Spring 05 through Fall 06 interaction with Texas fans, by far our best visitors here. I'm excited to watch them filter back through :banger:

What about Maryland?

Conference Expansion: What If Maryland Joined the Big 10?

The possibility, or should I say probability, of conference re-alignment among NCAA Division I schools is one if the most talked about sports topics not named Strasburg. We have discussed some of the issues very thoroughly, raising many questions and coming up with few definitive answers. What we have agreed upon is that, while many universities and conferences figure to be better off financially, a major shift involving several BCS conferences will leave some schools out in the cold, will wipe out some conferences all together and is likely to upset a large number of fan-bases. Could it lead to some positive things? Sure. Perhaps a football play-off will be more feasible. But are the NCAA member universities going to do more harm than good?
At this point there is only speculation that the Atlantic Coast Conference will be significantly altered when all is said and done. Rumors that the Florida schools will bolt for the SEC or that the ACC will add 4 schools from the Big East are just that, rumors. Given that many of us are Maryland fans, I started thinking about what it would be like if Maryland, a charter member of the ACC, received and accepted an offer to join the Big TenEleven conference. Given the uncertainty surrounding the ACC, could the university turn down such and offer? What would be the benefits of leaving the ACC for the Big 10? How would the revenue programs be affected? How would the change be received by coaches and former athletes who stay involved in the program? Would the change make sense from a athletic and recruiting perspective? And most importantly how would leaving the ACC affect the fans of and atmosphere surrounding Maryland athletic events?
There are a lot of questions and few answers right now, but from a financial perspective the University of Maryland would be foolish to turn down an offer to join the Big 10. The Big 10 could become a 16 team mega conference with the possible additions of schools like Nebraska, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and maybe even Texas. Huge money to be spread around by bowl game appearances and let?s not forget the Big 10 has it?s own television network devoted completely to conference athletics. Simply put the university and it?s athletic department would bring in significantly more revenue.
