My takeaway's - Stats are meaningless, Florida Atlantic is a Div I college, BYU had the 3rd best defense in the country??, and LSU's offense still sucks.

For those that care, Ohio State's Total D - 36, Total O - 48, SoS -51

Need to add Western Kentucky and Western Carolina to the equation. Western Carolina's only win this year was Mars Hill. Who the hell is Mars Hill? Alabama had a cake walk in the regular season outside of the LSU, A&M, and maybe Michigan...and they made Michigan look like a cake walk. That said, I don't expect the Irish to beat them, but I think their defense will keep it close for a quarter, maybe two at least.

Oh I agree, I just had no idea that Florida Atlantic was an FBS school.

In my opinion, Alabama's only quality games were A&M, LSU, and Georgia. I guess you could make an argument for Miss St and Michigan, but it would be debatable.

On the flip side, who would you say Notre Dame's quality games were against?? Stanford and Oklahoma, then who? USC, I guess, throw in Michigan again, after that, I just don't see any more.

At the end of the day, I agree with you. I see Bama winning another one *gag*, with Notre Dame maybe keeping it close for longer than people are giving them credit for.

Ha, I left A&M out, good point...and yeah, Mississippi State did fall apart after that Alabama game. As far as USC, they just have a lot of talent that is poorly coached. They're not a great team this year, but they still match up well with people. I would say they have just about as much talent as Alabama, LSU, or any other team in the SEC...but no where near the coaching. Thats one of the few reasons they hung around in all their games this year, athletic talent. I have no idea when the coaching is going to turn around, but for at least one more year they'll keep Kiffin around, no idea if they improve defensively without his father there.

Notre Dame really doesn't have a greater number of top tier opponents over Alabama on this year's schedule, but I think when you break it down by overall opponents it favors them having a tougher road in comparison. Speaking regular season, I would concede A&M and LSU being tougher than Oklahoma and Stanford, but after that I think it starts to slide away from the Tide given the 3 non-AQ teams and how the normally strong SEC West slipped this year.

I think that not only did the SEC West "slip", but that the entire SEC "slipped" this year to be honest w/ you.

Not that there were not strong teams at the top, just a lot of really bad ones everywhere else. It seemed like there was a much bigger divide b/w the good ones (Bama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, A&M) and the rest of the league.

In fact, I would say that only Miss St and Vanderbilt could even be considered decent out of the rest. And I think that says a lot when Vanderbilt is considered your mid-tier team. I mean, Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, and Arkansas were pathetic, Missouri was bad, and even though they were improved, Ole Miss was still an awful football team.

I'll take your word on USC, I didn't watch them much this season. I know that a dumpster fire couldn't happen to a more deserving person than Kiffin though.

You could make the argument that with the entrance of A&M this year, and the Aggies had a good year, it offset the implosion of Auburn and Arkansas. SEC West was still strong I think, just not as strong as they usually are. Any given year you could say that the SEC West is far and away stronger than basically just Florida and Georgia in the SEC East, but it's a closer gap this year with South Carolina playing decent the last two years and Auburn/Hogs falling off.

yeah, because their high school slate was done.

Mullen has yet to beat a West team with even a slight pulse, let alone one with a winning record.

But hey, baby steps. He finally beat one not named Ole Piss.
So what if it was the worst Auburn team in half a Century, and a John L. led Arky.
But he made up for it by getting ass raped by Ole Miss.

Now that we made it past 12/21/12 and seem to be headed to next fall I'd like to remind some BP posters as to just what happens when ND gets by Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue. Any one who thinks undefeated Ohio State would be ranked higher than undefeated Notre Dame has failed his history exam.

09/07/13 GO BLUE!!!
