BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

We still have a shot now that oklahoma is out of the picture and also Missouri or Kansas will lose next saturday becuase the play each other then Oklahoma plays the winner and hopefully then can beat that team. Just hope West Virginia can lose
Here, you can have these: ..,,,,..:;;:
Oklahoma does not play the winner of the Missouri/Kansas game. The winner of the Big 12 south plays the winner of the Missouri/kansas game. Texas could very easily be the representative from the South.

They would not be even the B12 north champ and they have also been, imo, the team the pollsters are most wanting to drop if they lose. Kansas isn't going to get any benefit of the doubt from the pollsters imo.

I totally agree. Kansas has to win out to make it and I seriously doubt they make it past Mizzou. There is no such thing as a "quality loss" in the BCS formula. I think Jax is correct that if it comes down to a beauty contest between the Bucks and WVU that things will get very interesting. Last year we all saw what happened when the pollsters realized they didn't want to see a replay of The Game. Does anyone really want to see LSU-WVU for all the marbles? tOSU was ahead of WVU in the computers last week and it will be interesting to see where everyone lands this week. The BCS is a funny bitch as the Bucks don't necessarily have to jump WVU in the human polls, but possibly just narrow the gap. With 2 weeks of games to be played, anything is pure speculation at this point. Who the hell knows, a tOSU-ASU match up in the MNC game is still possible. This has been a crazy season and there is bound to be some more craziness before it is all over. One thing is for sure, no matter what we don't have to play those damned Gators again. And if things hold as they are, the Rose Bowl is a tremendous honor as demonstrated by our boys after Saturday's game.

The sick part is that if the B12 champ has 2 losses, WVU and LSU drop one more each...It will be a 1 loss OSU at #1 looking around at a 1 loss kansas, 1 loss(maybe) ASU or a bunch of 2 loss teams to play.

I doubt it goes down that way but this year anything mathmatically possible is worth at least mentioning.

Why would we want the Mizzou/KU winner to win the Big 12 champ game?
Also, way too much math in there. :wink2:
We need 2 of the following 3:
Oklahoma (or Texas) to win the B12 championship game.
LSU to lose.
WVU to lose.

None of the teams ahead of us are above losing in their next 2 games, and it's entirely possible we'll wind up #1 and playing a 2 loss Georgia, USC or Oklahoma in the title game, or even a 1 loss Kansas who didn't win their conference.
This season has been beyond a clusterfuck in the rankings so far, and it certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down after this weekends results.
Yertle is right, the next couple weeks are going to be pretty sweet to watch.
I've long suspected that nobody reads my posts.

We don't!!! I never said that. I was just giving my odds at that particular team winning. It's not at all who I'm rooting for. Or is it "for whom I'm rooting"?

Lead story on Fox Sports...looks like our NC hopes are gathering steam!

Saturday Wrap: Buckeyes still have a shot...

Once again, the deck has been shuffled at the top, and the result is that with two weeks remaining in the season, as many as nine teams still could have a chance to win the national championship.

Yes, even two-loss teams like Georgia, Virginia Tech, and USC can still harbor hopes. One thing we can be sure of it that it won't go to form ... after all, nothing has all year.

No fewer than 12 football games remain to be played that could have a bearing on who gets to the BCS Championship Game, and eight other games could help decide who reaches one of the four big BCS bowl games.

That's 20 games of significance in the final two weeks, and we wouldn't be surprised if 10 of them resulted in upsets.

Among the ramifications of Oregon and Oklahoma's shocking defeats this week -- making it an astounding 11 times this season that an unranked team has beaten a team ranked in the top five -- is that if the "fairly logical" results unfold in the next two weeks, Ohio State would probably be the team that re-emerges in New Orleans for the Jan. 7 BCS Championship Game.

It's like this: Even if West Virginia takes care of UConn and Pitt to win the Big East title, OSU's convincing triumph over Michigan still should prompt voters to move the Buckeyes ahead of the Mountaineers. And since QB Sam Bradford figures to be back for Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game (if not for this week's game against Oklahoma State), the Sooners should still be considered the team to beat in the Big 12 ... even though their two losses have knocked them out of the national title hunt.

That's pretty much all it would take for Ohio State's devastating defeat of Nov. 10 to be erased from their consciousness.

Yep in that scenario, you might be looking at a 2 loss Georgia (say Tennessee beats UK and LSU) or a 1 loss Kansas that didn't even win their division but back door in by missing their conference championship game. This is one of those years where a playoff makes sense.

I didn't mean to suggest that you were rooting for either of them. It seems to me it should say: "Texas/Oklahoma just has to win the Big 12 championship game", which will have basically eliminated the entire Big 12 from the title picture. If the Missouri/Kansas winner wins the Big 12 they will still be ranked ahead of tOSU.

Agreed. I was just saying that the winner of the Kansas/Mizzou game only has the B12 title game left on their schedule. I'm assuming that even if Kansas loses, they're out. I have trouble seeing a 1-loss KU team staying above the Buckeyes. So, the winner just needs to beat Oklahoma (probably) to make the NC game.

But, trust me, I'll be the biggest Sooner fan in Ohio on December 1st! :wink2:

And as far as the "let's just be happy with the Rose Bowl" stuff goes, it's time for a reality check. We're not talking about Iowa, Wisconsin, or even Michigan. WE ROOT FOR THE BUCKEYES! We root for a team that shoots for the NC GAME EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Starting WR's and RB gone? So what. Heisman trophy QB gone? Big deal. This is what separates the Buckeyes from the rest of the Big 10. This is why Tressel has won 3 straight Big 10 championships. This is why he's headed to his 5th BCS game in 6 years. Sure, we're happy to make the Rose Bowl. It's still the Granddaddy. But, ask any Buckeye player if they'd rather be playing in New Orleans. You think any one of them would say no? Give me a break. The ultimate goal at THE Ohio State University is National Championships.

Now I see, that makes more sense.
As to the Rose Bowl vs. title game talk: Great post, I agree.

Except he's wrong. OSU needs WV to lose, or play very very poorly in one or maybe even both games. They have a big enough lead in the polls.

Yep looks like WV will still be ahead of OSU in the BCS. Heard a lot of talk on the way home today that we might jump WV, but it isn't looking like that will happen by the way the other polls are shaking out.

West Virginia folds under pressure like a lawn chair, I don't think this trend will change this year. I think it is going to come down to the Big 12 for us, even if the SEC can screw itself over too. I like the way it has panned out so far, chances look good. Its incredible how many scenarios could go down. We could either have a great Rose Bowl or National Championship matchup or very poor ones. I can't remember the last time our fate rested in so many different hands--maybe 2002 when we were all Texas A&M fans.
