BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

If Kansas loses to Missouri then they would fall past tOSU, and, depending on how bad the loss is, could fall out of the Top 10. Right now, everyone is giving them the benefit of the doubt because they are undefeated, and have a big match up coming versus a good team. But realize that they have played 3 teams with winning records (out of 11), and that ALL of those teams are 6-5. Furthermore, it is quite possible that, when the season ends, they will have only played one team that finished with a winning record, being Missouri (TAMU, OSU, and CMich. would all have to lose, which is quite possible). People want to talk about how bad our schedule is, but that is just awful.

Except he's wrong. OSU needs WV to lose, or play very very poorly in one or maybe even both games. They have a big enough lead in the polls.

I would beg to differ. I think that mentality(fox story) will prevail if the whole thing shakes down that way.

I just don't think the national media is REALLy going to vote for WVU over OSU straight up as the choice for BCS #2.

What you see now is still the normal, move up based on where you were last week stuff. When and if it comes down to it don't be suprised to see the polls do a version of what they did last year between UF and tsun.

Just to play devil's advocate, after all the shit we had to take during the regular season regarding our bowl loss and the perceived weakness of our conference, you think we have a shot of jumping WVU in a beauty contest due to our name alone? It seems that OSU's name and tradition have done jack to help our cause this year and it showed - lose one game to a good Illini squad and we become the worst one-loss team in the pack. Everyone was eager to punish us when we slipped.

That's what I thought too, and then I read Pat Forde's article on the front page of ESPN last night, which was basically an argument piece for WVU. If it really comes down to OSU/WVU, all the writers are going to vote for the little guys and all the coaches are going to keep the teams in the same pecking order as the week before. The writers are opinionated about a lot of stuff, but one thing they are not opinionated on is how teams that generate more revenue for the BCS should be chosen to play in the game. They don't have a stake in the revenue dollars or the TV ratings. As far as the coaches, there's no reason within the profession to put one team ahead of another unless there is some extraordinary circumstance, which just isn't there in this case. We need OU to win out and either LSU or WVU to lose. The best bet is LSU at this point.

The thing that people keep seeming to forget is that OSU doesnt have to jump WVU in the human polls to make the game. Someone mentioned that missouri is between the two and those points would favor us with either a miss win(jumping WVU in the human polls) or even a miss loss(against either OKLA/TEX or KAN) so a beauty pagent might not need to happen. The main help would come from okla/tex winning out and/or LSU losing. All three may happen at the rate losses in the top five have gone.

I'm starting to get the strong suspicion that we could have a split title this season......... I'll leave it at that. :wink2:

That could happen, but it would have to be WVU/Missouri in New Orleans. If either Kansas or LSU makes it to the game, there would be no splits.

And Ohio State would have to beat a two loss SC team or an one loss ASU team pretty convincingly.

Could happen though.

:oh:

Unfortunately this no longer seems to be the case. WV has tied us in the computers. We would need Washington to win out and the Pitt game to do damage to WV's strength of schedule, amongst other things, to give us back our lead in the computers. Once we get Missouri's spot in the Harris and USA Today, the BCS is going to be tighter than Jessica Alba's ass.

Becoming more clear

To get to the national championship game now we need two of three scenarios.

1. WV has to be defeated by either UCONN or Pittsburgh. ( i would think the pittsburgh rivalry game has the better chance of a WV defeat )

2. Kansas and Missouri play each other. One of which will fall out. The Other still plays Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game where we need Oklahoma to win.

3. LSU needs to lose to either Arkansas (unlikely) or TN or UGA. UGA has the best chance IMHO.

It's only two out of three scenarios that we need. Like being in the clubhouse waiting for the others to finish the 18th hole.

Exactly. I believe that #2 will happen. OU is miles ahead of both Kansas and Mizzou, and they'll be pissed.

I think #3 is the next most likely. Georgia is playing great ball, LSU is not playing its best ball. Oh yeah, and DMac.

This is not that unlikely, fellas.

I'm not convinced that West Va. has to lose, so much as get shown up.

They don't have the computer points, and the polls late in season are driven so much by "style points." True, if the 'Eers do lose a game then that is the easiest way for them to go down - but, it may not be the only way.

The other 2 scenarios seem fairly sound though - I could see LSU coming a cropper against Arkansas, let alone in the championship game. Then again, they could win out. The silencing of lambs in the Big 12 is a near dead certainty - with the only negative outcome for the Buckeyes being a Kansas winning out.

At which point Kansas, frankly, deserves their shot.
