Rose Bowl: Ohio State vs. Arizona State

I realize that this is based on the speculation of the season ending today. However, up here in Oregon-land, a number of colleagues are expecting USC to represent in the Rose Bowl. It would be an interesting precursor to next year if it's OSU-USC.

I'll give you Oregon and LSU, but goggles or no goggles I'm not so hot on the big 12 teams.

I think the Big 12 is stronger than the Big 10 though with Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. I think that is a stronger upper tier than OSU and scUM this year. Plus the mid-tier teams like Texas, Oklahoma State, and the rest are a bit stronger. I think while the pundits go overboard on how bad the Big 10 is, it is pretty weak this year. I think the conferences that are the toughest this year go like: SEC, Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10 tied with Big East+ACC, and then the rest. However, sometimes when you think you're up one year you get spanked in Bowl Games (last year) and when you think you're down you do well, so we'll have to wait and see. It is certainly debatable though and there is no way of really telling a right or wrong right now. I would love to see us make it to the NC game but I doubt it happens.

oops

My bad on my previous post ---- for some reason (41-14) last year felt like much worse than a one-loss year.

and so... it would still be great to finish with two wins, like 2005. Beat Bichigan in Ann Arbor and then the Rose Bowl. Top 5 finish, if not top 3....

I can live with that until next year.

Kansas WILL lose a game -- those awful blue uniforms just cannot win out.

Beating Llllloyd four times in a row - that will cheer us all back up!!

Thoughts on National Championship

Okay...so we lost Saturday. But does that me that we can't STILL win the National Championship?? Who says we can't...??

But even if we don't, I'm so proud of the team and proud to be a fan!!! All I heard all pre-season was that the Buckeyes would be re-building. Some re-build!!! lol...we kicked butt when no one out there thought we would do anything.

Next year will be awesome!!

Can't wait until next week's game!! GO BUCKEYES!!:osu:

It's over - let's focus on Meat and then the Rose Bowl

This chipping our way back into the MNC doesn't cut it. And after our lackluster performance against Illinois, we don't deserve it. But, with a great effort this Saturday and a great effort in the Rose Bowl, we will have earned a fantastic season, far beyond what most could have expected.

Go Bucks!

Have you seen them play? OU got all their hype after blasting a shitty Cryami team. They don't care how bad Da U is. All they see are the uniforms, the final score, and assume OU is great. I bought the preseason Big-12 hype, and I still do respect Kansas and Mizzou, but OU and OSU are nothing to brag about. I agree that the Big-12 is better than the Big-10 but there is no way you could convince me OU is better than tOSU.

You mean a Jack Tatum hit, right? That's part of our tradition.

Would've like to have seen one on Saturday. :(

Even if you grant that OSU beats OU, I still think the B12 looks slightly stronger overall than the B10. It's not the B10 best year...several mid-tier teams, but few strong ones. Next year should be good though.

What are the chances that all of these occur? What we should cheer for...

November 12, 2007

What to watch

OK, Ohio State, No. 7 in the BCS, needs to beat Michigan on Saturday, and have five teams ahead of them in the standings lose in order to make it back to the national-title game.
Here's a day-by-day look at what Ohio State fans should cheer for:
THURSDAY (11-15): Arizona to beat No. 2 Oregon. One down, four to go.
SATURDAY (11-17): No. 6 West Virginia to lose at Cincinnati. Two down, three to go.
SATURDAY, 11-24: No. 5 Missouri to win at No. 3 Kansas. Three down, two to go.
SATURDAY, 12-1: No. 1 Louisiana State to lose in the SEC title game, likely to Georgia. This takes care of it, because Missouri and Oklahoma will play in the Big 12 title game, so there's the other loss OSU needs.
All of that would likely put Ohio State in the title game against either Missouri or Oklahoma.
If Oregon gets by Arizona, it plays UCLA at home and then hosts archrival Oregon State. I considered this week's game at Arizona on national TV to beat the best chance for an upset, but the Beavers could also pull it off.
If West Virginia beats UC, the Mountaineers aren't completely home free. They face a decent two-loss UConn team, then Pitt.

You quoted me before I edited my post. I conceded that the Big-12 is probably a little better than the Big-10.

Yep, I have. I think they are just all around solid and I know I'm not the only one thinking they are a very good team. I know Corso and Herbstreit were high on them. Bradford is a great QB, their RB's are tough (especially Murray), the OL is pretty good, and their WR's make plays. The defense isn't all world but they are good enough to get the job done. Could OSU beat any of LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma, or Kansas? Certainly. However, in retrospect I probably need to wait a bit more to make a statement like that because Oklahoma and Kansas still have much to prove, just like OSU did before Saturday. Kansas will likely lose at least one game out of the schedule ahead of them. It's just really tough to lose a game near the end of the year and make it to the big show. If there is any year to do it though, this is the year.

If we fall no lower than 8th in the BCS Ohio State is NOT out of the National Championship picture.

LSU: @Ole Miss, Arkansas, SEC Championship
Oregon: @Arizona, @UCLA, Oregon State
Kansas: Iowa State, Missouri, BIG 12 Champsionship
Oklahoma: @Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, BIG 12 Championship
Missouri: @Kansas State, @Kansas, BIG 12 Championship
West Virginia: @Cincinnati, U Conn, Pitt
Arizona State: USC, Arizona

Our regular season may end next week but there is still a lot of football to be played. Every team but Kansas needs just one more loss to drop below Ohio State and I don't see any of them as world-beaters. In what may be one of the wackiest years ever in college football - why not?

Get focused - Beat Michigan - Wait.

Ok, I'll play. As others have noted, we are at 7th, so only need five teams to lose.

Arizona State: They are behind us, and the only scenerio in which they can pass us is us losing. So we are good here.

West Virginia: Absolutely can see Cincy beating them. However, even should they not lose, we could jump them if Arizona State OR Missouri loses.

Missouri: Probably the most likely loss of the bunch.

Oklahoma: Tough to see them losing, but certainly not impossible. However, if they do win out, two of the five teams ahead of us are gone.

Kansas: See Missouri.

Oregon: I think this is the most unlikely loss of the bunch. Still, they lost to an average Cal team, so again, not impossible.

LSU: Certainly beatable, particularly if they have to play Georgia in the SEC championship.

If we take Az St, Missouri, West Virginia, and Kansas as a foregone conclusion, we are left with Okl, LSU, and Oregon needing two of the three to lose. Not likely, but certainly possible.

Of course, if the coaches don't do a better job than they did on Sat, it won't really matter. But Michigan seems to bring out the best in Tressel, so I go in confident. Win out, and let the chips fall where they may.

GO BUCKS!
