BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

I recall something like this happening a few times

FSU In 1998 got 2 upsets in the final weekend to get into the title game, and I think the same happened for Nebraska in 2001

This chipping our way back into the MNC doesn't cut it. And after our lackluster performance against Illinois, we don't deserve it. But, with a great effort this Saturday and a great effort in the Rose Bowl, we will have earned a fantastic season, far beyond what most could have expected.

Go Bucks!
Never give up hope. Just because we lost to Illinois does not discredit us from being National Title worthy, I think you're reasoning is flawed and way too pessimistic; something I can't stand. Before stating we don't deserve a chance at the National Championship because of our "lackluster performance" against Illinois, ask yourself these questions:

- Does Oklahoma really deserve to be there for their lackluster performance against Colorado?
- Does LSU really deserve to be there for their lackluster performance against Kentucky?
- Does Oregon really deserve to be there for their lackluster performance against Cal?
- Does West Virginia really deserve to be there for their lackluster performance against South Florida?
- Does Missouri really deserve to be there for their lackluster performance against Oklahoma?
- Does Kansas really deserve to be there for the simple fact that they are Kansas?

This negativity just doesn't cut it. I'll agree a win over Michigan and a trip to the Rose Bowl will be fantastic for this season, but to say we still don't deserve a shot at the National Title anymore than the teams ahead of us is just lame.

I'm not a prophet. I have no abilities for prognostication whatsoever. However, with the precedent of weirdness created this season, I feel some sort of odd peace about this outside chance of things falling into place. I'm not counting on it, I'm not betting on it, but it's more plausible than any of us can possibly imagine. Truly, It Ain't Over.

I just want to beat Michigan now. If we do that, whatever bowl game in which we end up will be fine with me.

I agree Mili. As much as I want the Bucks to make it & win the NC each and every year, I know it isn't realistic. I'm very happy with the way our team has played this year and I'd be VERY happy with a 11-1 regular season and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

GO BUCKS!!!

At least two posters in this thread mentioned Oregon winning out as if it were a foregone conclusion. Sooo... I'm thinking Oregon gets beat for sure. If not against Arizona, then I think the OSU Beavers will get it done. Don't get me wrong, Oregon has impressed me but any team can have a bad week and this year's CFB has a ton of parity.

If I had to bet, I'd say the Bucks end up at #3 assuming we get past the weasels. At least two of the teams ahead of us have to lose with the Big 12 matchups. Throw in two more upsets and we're at #3.

I was thinking of '98 as well. OSU only needed a Tennessee loss in the SEC Championship game from facing FSU. All the dominoes fell on that last Saturday except that last one. Hopefully, the chain reaction doesn't stop short this time.

I completely agree, that is exactly what I have been thinking. Well said...

Fucking Clint Stoener!!!!

I still have a scar on the back of my head from where I threw my head back after he fumbled and cracked it on a railing I didn't know was behind me. Double painful memory of that BS.

The way I see it, beat Michigan and OSU ends the season no worse than 5th, even with no upsets. Kansas and Mizzou play, and then that winner plays Oklahoma (presuming they all win their other games). Any upsets mean one more ranking spot each (presuming no leapfrog by Georgia). So we're looking for a minimum of three upsets. While possible, that's a real stretch. I can see Cincy giving WVU a game this week, since the Bearcats are on a tear and WVU is coming off of a less than impressive win. Otherwise, the rest of this week's needed upsets look like locks for the favored teams. I am not sure I see where the other two upsets would happen in the coming weeks, either.

Again, presuming a win in AA, I think that the final BCS standings will look something like:

1 Oregon/LSU
2 LSU/Oregon
3 B12 winner
4 OSU

Of course, it's been a wacky season, so anything can happen. I'm not going to put much more thought or energy into this until the Bucks ruin yet another season for the Weasels, however. An 11-1 season, a Big Ten title, a top 5 regular season finish and a Rose Bowl berth will be better than anyone expected from this squad, so I'll be more than content with that result. Anything else is a bonus, especially at this point.
