BCS Guru (incorrectly) projected LSU-Oklahoma State in Title Game

If Alabama makes it to the Nat'l Title Game, I won't watch... I don't need to explain my reasoning as it's been plenty outlined in this forum over the last few days/week. If Ohio State/Michigan didn't rematch in 2006/07, Alabama and LSU shouldn't do it now. We've seen it before, no one wants to see it again. *Except SEC fans.

The SEC set up their own conference championship format. They set up their own divisions. The fact that it left Alabama out of its own conference championship game is a problem of their own making, and that goes for all of the other conferences who create these fake "championship" games.

Hell, the only reason Houston is not going to a BCS game is because CUSA went the championship game route to make some money. In the end, it cost them money.

For the BCS to reward any of them for such nonsense would be a new level of stupidity for an entity that has already accomplished much in that regard.

Yeah I loved after the Houston loss, they cut back to the studio and first thing that was said was "Houston costing their conference potential millions..."

No blame on the conference for deciding to go that route.. ESPN=idiots.

Even better was Larry Fedora insisting that Southern Miss should be in a BCS bowl. Really? Maybe if you hadn't totally shit the bed against one of the worst teams in the FBS, you'd have a case. Hilarious joke man.

The question should not be, what's fair to Oklahoma State.

The question should be, what's fair to LSU.

LSU has already beaten Alabama once, so why should they have to play them again? Even if Alabama is the second best team (and they probably are).

They have a solid, QUICK team... But I agree. Only the BEST belong in the BCS, and Southern Miss is FAR from that.

I'd hate to be the team that has to face Southern Miss, though.

I would throw Houston in that last statement, but their defense is turrible.

The numbers in the Coaches poll:

1.00000 1475 - LSU (59 voters)
0.94847 1399 - Bama
0.92678 1367 - Okla St

If the computers come out with 4 for Okla St and 2 for Bama, then The Harris poll needs a higher percentage of voters to go for Oklahoma State.

Here are the numbers if 60 of the Harris voters go Okie State #2, and the other 55 have them at #3, with Bama getting all of the other #2 and #3 votes.

Team....Computers..Coaches..Harris..Total (average of the 3 columns)
Okla St...950.......92678....94087...93922
Alabama...930.......94847....93913...93920

So Okie State will need at least 60 of the 115 Harris voters to go for them, and 4 of the 6 computers.

If they get 5 of the 6 computers, they'll only need about 47 of the 115 votes.

It really is a shame for Oklahoma State. They did have the better quality of schedule and quality of wins, but SEC's reputation put Alabama at a huge advantage with the media.

I can't imagine the hurt for Oklahoma State players and the fans if they see Alabama clinching the #2 spot by .001 point.

from what I've been reading, to put it into easy terms...Okie St would need to be 5 pts ahead of Bama in the Harris Poll

The problem with this is AP Poll is very telling for Harris Poll. It does hurt for Oklahoma State that most of the voters had Alabama with the sizeable lead in the last Harris Poll.

What's fair to the landscape of college football. You are going to penalize Oklahoma State for insisting on playing that weeknight game after tragedy struck the team? :shake: Sure they lost, and looked uninspired in the process, but they had a pretty justified reason.

Alabama on the other hand, had EVERYTHING stacked in their court this year. HOME night game against LSU, which would virtually seal their place in the National Title game. They lost, end of conversation.

As others have noted, had LSU been the home team and won 9-6, then we may have a more plausible argument for Alabama being the other representative in the BCS NCG. But that just isn't the case.

Again, this shouldn't be about what's fair for Okie State. They could have avoided this controversy by beating a very weak Iowa State team. If that causes them to fall to #3 in the BCS, well that's the result of their own failure to take care of their own business.

I would feel bad for LSU if they would lose to Bama in a rematch, thereby losing a national championship to a team that they had already beaten.

Under no circumstances will I feel any sorrow for Okie State. You really don't have any claim to be the best in the country when you can't beat the 8th best in your own conference.

I see both sides of the spectrum, and I agree with what you are saying.

If it didn't happen in 2006, it shouldn't happen now.

I would feel bad for anyone having to watch an Alabama LSU rematch, the first game was a fucking abortion that was horrible offense (and football in general) that was glorified as "gritty tough defense" because its the SEC!!!11!!!!

if say Oklahoma State and Oklahoma were #1 and #2 and played a 9-6 shitfest what do you think would be said about that?
