BCS Guru (incorrectly) projected LSU-Oklahoma State in Title Game

I'm with you. Bama vs. LSU I see as a snoozefest.

Unfortunately that means fuck-all. The computers will do what they will do, and we'll all have to just deal with it.

Indeed. I'm just slightly disappointed that I may feel more intrigued to do something else instead of watching the NCG. I typically enjoy them very much.

Putting all of your energy behind rooting against Saban and his Stormtrooper Brigade is plenty enjoyable.

Re: It would be a dead heat if Oklahoma State was #2 and Alabama #3 in 5 (or 6) of the 6 computers (high and low are thrown out); and Alabama was #2 and Okie St #3 in exactly 75% of the human votes, with the remaining 25% having it flipped.

That would be interesting.

I think the people at the BCS want to keep their system around as long as possible. That means putting Okie St. in to avoid major backlash that would spur playoff considerations. I think they'll do everything in their power to assure that we don't get a rematch.

Normally Mandel does better than ignore the elephant in the room - Cowboys vs. Iowa State. Beat the vastly over-matched Cyclones (8th big 12) and Oklahoma State has all the arguments in their favor. Fail, as they did, and they really have a gimpy leg on which to stand.

Ask yourselves, if Alabama had stumbled late in the season against Miss. State would they be getting any love right now? No, of course they wouldn't.

Neither should the Cowboys, and Pickens can go off and tilt at his fucking windmills for all I care.

If Bama had lost to Miss St, they'd have two losses and we wouldn't be discussing this.

Its not the only elephant in the room. You want to turn it into a black-white issue when it isn't.

Alabama loses at home to LSU; emphasis AT HOME. How is a neutral site game going to change this fact? If 'Bama wins in a title game that literally means that the previous match-up didn't matter? How's that for the old NCAA Football mantra that the regular season is essentially a playoff?

OK State loses on the road. Furthermore it happened immediately after hearing some emotional news on the death of OK State's women's basketball coach someone I'm certain many of the were close with and others knew very well.

Further further, OK State has beaten 7 winning teams compared with Alabama beating 3.

My own stance on this is:

I think Alabama is the 2nd best team in the nation. I don't know this to be sure. I do know that Alabama lost to the #1 team in the nation already. This has actually happened. I think that Oklahoma State is possibly the 2nd best team in the nation. They have not yet lost to the #1 team in the nation. This has not actually happened yet.

Oklahoma State should be in the game.

Great point. Tally:

Oklahoma State
Conference champion
More wins over top-25 teams
More wins over top-10 teams
More wins over bowl-eligibile teams

Alabama
Better loss

Crunching the numbers for the scenario where OKie State is ahead in 4 of 6 computers.

If Oklahoma State is ahead in 4 of the 6 computers
(likely the case, since Sagarin has Bama at #2), they'll need to be ahead of Bama in at least an average of 37.5% of the votes in the human polls, rather than just 25%, which was the case if they were #2 in 5 (or 6) computers.

It would be a dead heat if Oklahoma State was #2 and Alabama #3 in 4 of the 6 computers (high and low are thrown out); and Alabama was #2 and Okie St #3 in exactly 62.5% of the human votes, with the remaining 37.5% having it flipped. That's with LSU being #1 in every computer and for every voter (which they are now), and with no other team getting into the top 3 in anything.

Team....Computers..Coaches..Harris..Total (average of the 3 columns)
Okla St...950.......935......935.....940
Alabama...930.......945......945.....940

If the computers are split 3-3, then Oklahoma State needs 50% of the human votes, since they would completely decide it if the computers gave both teams a .940.

Oklahoma State v LSU = Jake watches game

Alabama v LSU = Jake does something else

The SEC created a system where the two best teams in their own conference don't meet to settle the conference title, and they're supposed to get rewarded for it?

Sorry, someone else can watch that shit.

Simply put, if it's a rematch, I won't be watching. I didn't watch the first game either. It's not the fact I don't like the sec. I already know the sec will crown another champion in January. It's the fact that I'd love to see Oklahoma State's offense vs. the LSU D. I think it'll be a good matchup. Who wouldn't want to see Mathieu vs. Blackmon? Bama will play in a BCS bowl no matter what and if they want to piss and moan about being in the sugar bowl, then they should've beaten LSU.
