THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. Jim Tressel put top-ranked Ohio State through its first practice in a week yesterday and liked what he saw as the Buckeyes started pointing for the national championship game Jan. 8 against Florida. "The kids did a great job, they were hustling and bustling around, and it seemed like they remembered all the things we worked on back before Christmas," he said. "It was good to get the holidays out of the system, and I thought their focus was very good."

All I know is that I'm thrilled Ohio State isn't getting the same "these guys simply are the greatest ever" treatment they've given the last several national runners up. (SC last year, OU in 03 being prime examples. Ironically, I don't remember the 04 SC team recieving a great deal of hype, in fact if I recall, the SC v. OU Orange Bowl was supposed to be a real close match. :slappy:) Point is, ESPN can't get it right. Why? The football Gods hate ESPN.

I've been watching ESPiN all weekend long and cannot figure out who the Gators play in the Title Game! Every story is about Florida, from Chris Leak, all the way to the internet stories about their putrid kicker. Not a word about their opponent. Is this game not really a game? Will Florida just walk out and receive the crystal football?

NO LOVE AT ALL!

I don't believe this board needs an individual thread complaining about lack of respect or hype from ESPN. I agree with the opinions that have been expressed on this board which state that the tOSU football team is better off not receiving an abundance of ass-kissing from members of the media.

ESPN has been hyping the ABC-covered Rose Bowl. Their attention will turn to the Championship Game after January 1st.

Merging this with the game thread.

Blasphemy! Blasphemy!
BKB you know better . ESPN ARE THE FOOTBALL GODS! Don't you watch?
On the other hand I would love to see the Buckeyes featured over and over.
Why? Because it's our turn and I like to watch Buckeye stuff.

Ohio State enters national championship free of Clarett's shadow
Sunday, December 31, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) The last time Ohio State played for a national championship, Maurice Clarett scored the winning touchdown. This time, he won't even be able to watch the whole game on television. Clarett's fall from star tailback to convicted felon has hung like a cloud over the Ohio State program since he led them to the 2002 national title.

Florida?s Siler confident defense can slow OSU
Sunday, December 31, 2006
By Todd Porter REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

If there is one thing Brandon Siler knows ? besides how to tackle and lay out a big hit ? it?s roles. A former high school actor, Siler is a junior leader on Florida?s defense. The Chuck Bednarik Award semifinalist and second-team All-SEC linebacker likes the role the Gators are in for their Jan. 8 game against Ohio State in the BCS National Championship game.

When Urban Meyer was an assistant football coach at Notre Dame, he recruited several high schools in Ohio, including Glenville in Cleveland. Meyer, the University of Florida coach, then became the head coach at Bowling Green in 2001 and noticed a player from Glenville who came to the Falcons' summer camp.

Buckeyes already battling Gators for recruits
By JON SPENCER
BuckeyeBuzz.com

COLUMBUS -- Life these days is all about attention to detail for Greg Gillum -- except when he's at home. "I got up one Sunday and hadn't seen our new house in the daylight," said Gillum, the second-year assistant recruiting coordinator for the Ohio State football team. "I told my wife, 'Hey, that woodwork looks nice.' Turns out it was here when we bought the place months earlier."

On SUN Sports here in South Florida, they were interviewing the receiving corps for the Gators. Dallas Baker put out some bulletin board material for the Buckeyes. Even though you can barely understand him when he talks, he said twice "after we win the national championship" in reference to his future plans. Sounds like this guy thinks the game is won already. I hope the rest of the team has his overconfidence. :gobucks3: :gobucks4:
