At work I am getting the "you have no idea how good the SEC is" from the Florida fans, people who were muted up until a few weeks ago. I havn't heard a whole lot of "SEC speed" but I have had a co-worker who went to UGA tell me that scUM is almost as good as UGA... (The irony here is that Vandy beat UGA and scUM beat Vandy... heh)

What I thought was amusing about Meyer's comments... after conceding you don't stop Smith, you try and contain him, he twice listed off QBs with athletic ability being difference makers. His list? Smith - that is Troy. Alex Smith. Chris Leak. Brady Quinn.

Troy Smith - yes
Alex Smith - Ok, in college, I'll give Meyer a pass on this, though I'm not quick to agree with his assessment. And, Meyer certainly knows Alex Smith a shitload better than me.
Quinn - Athletic? No. Proven "big game player?" Hardly
Leak? Are you fucking kidding me? Is your QBs ego so fragile that you have to include him - not once, but twice - in your discussion of great "how do you stop em" QBs? I mean, I certainly understand why a coach would toss some props to his starting QB. That's reasonable. But come on.... Chris Leak in the same sentence as Troy Smith where "how do you stop him" is the talking point? Please.
it's simple, you see, only Meyer can stop Chris Leak... when he pulls him to put in Tim Tebow.

Didn't Georgia get beat by Kentucky?? How in the hell does anyone who gets beat by Kentucky call themselves respectable much less good?

I haven't read this whole thread, so I'm sorry if this info is duplicated.

Here's a post I made on another forum about Leak's play (vs Troy's) against teams with solid secondaries. The post was made in regard to the Rival's positional power rankings for the defensive backs. Here's my post copied here:

Against those teams with ranked DBs:

LSU: (4th ranked Landry) 155 yards passing, 0 TD, 1, Int
Auburn: (with 11th ranked Irons) 108 yards passing 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 Fumble lost
Tennessee: (with 12th ranked Heffney & 22 Wade) 199 Yards 3 TD, 1 Int (decent)
Georgia: (14th ranked Battle) 163 Yards 1 TD, 1 Int
Arkansas (19th ranked Houston) 189 Yards 1 TD, 2 Int

Thanks for posting that. I feel more comfortable now knowing that Leak hasn't had any stellar performances against teams with great DBs. The closest was against Tennessee, which was his only notable game.

Summary: Average of 162.8 yards passing, 6 TDs, 6 Ints in those games.

Troy Smith against those DBs (two games):
Texas (6th ranked Griffin and 10th ranked Ross) 269 yards, 3 Tds, 0 Ints
Michigan: (2nd ranked Hall) 316 Yards Passing, 4 TDs, 1 Int.

Summary: 292.5 Yards passing, 7 TDs, 1 Int.

---
I thought this info was rather telling in the leadership and abilities of the two respective QBs. UF seems to win big games in spite of Leak (aside from Tennessee). With OSU's ability to intercept the ball and Leak's tendency to make bad passes in big games, I like the chances of OSU receiving gifts.

Who does Florida play for title?

I've been watching ESPiN all weekend long and cannot figure out who the Gators play in the Title Game! Every story is about Florida, from Chris Leak, all the way to the internet stories about their putrid kicker. Not a word about their opponent. Is this game not really a game? Will Florida just walk out and receive the crystal football?

NO LOVE AT ALL!

This is a somewhat sarcastic post by the way

:oh: GO BUCKS! :io:

Neither ESPN/ABC nor CBS/CSTV have much reason to hype the NC game. They can't ignore it though, so to get viewership they hype the team that, most rational people, think is going to lose.
As has been noted in other threads controversy = ratings for these guys. And saying stuff like Florida and LSU are the 2 best teams in the country is no different.
Fox/NFLN is the only one with any reason to really talk about the Buckeyes at all -- but instead, their entire coverage of the bowl season, thus far, has essentially been useless and non-existent.
Their only redeeming quality is that their no-name commentators aren't any worse than Pam and Coach Gottfried. (Good people, but please take their mics away)

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

On Jan. 1, 1996, on a sloppy, wet field, Ohio State cornerback Antoine Winfield slipped and Tennessee receiver Joey Kent didn?t. This was significant.
Both Kent and Winfield had tried to plant and come back to the underthrown ball from quarterback Peyton Manning. With Winfield down, Kent made the catch and bolted 47 yards for a touchdown. The Volunteers won the Citrus Bowl 20-14.
