Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Noticeable lack of Gators around here for discussion of the big game. Last year we got a handful of Domers, heck in 2004 there was even a pretty good group of fans from Okie State. I swear, Florida fans are quite possibly the most ignorant in the country. Reading their boards, there's hardly any intelligent football discussion, and it seems like half of them don't even know the players on their own team.:roll1:
According to Swamp Gas, they say the same about us. I can be an honest observer, living amongst the enemy. I have watched most of the FLorida games and all of the OSU games. They have only played one team that is anything like OSU in LSU. They stuggled against them, and LSU shot themselves in the foot a few times that game with penalties and dropped passes.

One thing I hear all the time is "Reggie is going to shut your passing game down". The guy can fly and he can hit, but I have never seen one guy cover 4 or 5 people at once.

Oh, and because we play in the Big 10, we can't be nearly as fast as them. I can't wait to see this game, and if OSU wins, I am wearing Buckeye gear everwhere I go for the next 6 months just to rub it in.:lift:

As time passes we recognize that there are only a few fan bases equal to ours.
That's just the way it is.

Gotta give credit to fan bases like Iowa and Nebraska for being knowledgeable and respectful!

Sick of the SEC...go Buckeyes.

New to the group, but not new to the forum. I truly enjoy the dialogue...

I live in TN and deal with the SEC people on a daily basis. Even the TN, AL, GA, and MS fans are routing for FL. They hate them, but figure they should root for the SEC team. Grrrrr.

None of them pay attention to anyone but the SEC teams. They believe their conference is the best, by far, and that tOSU and MI would be mid-level teams in the SEC. They have not seen but maybe one or two tOSU games - TX and MI - and think that the Buckeyes are a product of their weak schedule. Yes...they seriously think that. They think if tOSU was in the SEC that they would have 3 losses or so.

What is absolutely astonishing to me is that they know nothing about FL!!! They know that FL beat their team (unless they are Auburn fans) and that they must be AMAZING to only lose one game! When I ask them about FL's running back or FG kicker or the team who has the second most penalties...they just look at me bewildered. It's like they are zombies.

Whew! Had to vent. I have been with my inlaws in GA over the holidays and all I hear is "Florida's going to kill Ohio State!" Little do they know...

Watching both sides, and trying to be as objective as possible, I think tOSU will win by 14 pts or so. FL will score on gimmick plays using the option and maybe a Harvin play - but tOSU will pick them apart. All I can say is - "How did we fare against MI?" Seriously, MI brought the heat and Smith, Pittman, Ginn, etc. took them to town. MI is much better than FL - and we handled them. FL should be cake - in the shape of a gator.

Oh, and I show everyone who will watch the TimBuck2 video of Smith and his touchdowns. They are quite impressed and say stuff like "well maybe you have a chance..." And then I say, "Those were just the touchdowns!!!!"

It?s SEC vs. the Big Ten
Tuesday, December 26, 2006
By Todd Porter REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS Just like the rest of the country, Ohio State players have conference biases. They thought the Southeastern Conference was a speed conference. They thought the Big Ten was where big-bodied farm boys with a hint of athleticism went to play football.
Forget stereotypes. The Buckeyes have speed, brains and brawn.
There is just one problem.
So does Florida. ?When I was going through the recruiting process, I thought the SEC was for fast guys and the Big Ten was for big guys,? Buckeye running back Antonio Pittman said. ?I was recruited by Florida, but that was too far away. What I?ve learned since is Florida has some pretty big guys, and we have some pretty fast guys. I don?t think it?s the way it used to be.?

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Straight shooter
Urban Meyer always has seemed to be focused on where his life was headed
Tuesday, December 26, 2006

By Rob Oller THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? Even in the wonder years, a mature Urban Meyer managed his life for the wonderful years ahead.
When buddies pulled pranks, Meyer knew when to pull away. He often was the brains behind the operation, which meant he was smart enough not to get caught.
When friends drank, Meyer spent time with them to show he was a regular guy. But he was no goof-off. No drinking. No partying. No embarrassing the family name. "This is going to be a boring story because Urban was a good student, a good athlete who didn?t get into any trouble," said childhood friend Rick Pugliese, who grew up with Meyer in Ashtabula.

Taking the fifth pays off for OSU
In last fling, veteran players have played beyond expectations

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

What propelled Jay Richardson to a career year wasn?t the waiting but the weight.
The Ohio State defensive end had stood in line behind a number of talented players in his first four years as a Buckeye. Injuries and inconsistency kept him from fulfilling his sizable potential.
What finally did the trick this season was the sense that as a fifthyear senior, younger players were looking to him. How he carried himself, acted and played meant something more. The weight of expectation, of those eyes watching him, pushed Richardson forward.

Well, I'm around. I've been over on the bball board yelling at gators for a bit, but that's over, so it's time to be on here more. Over time, I'll pick up around the rest of the board. Of course, if you had said lack of Gator fans around here, I wouldn't count.

With two weeks to go, is there anyone that is hosting an OSU party near north central florida? I don't want to go to any UF parties, because I'm pretty sure I'd bring down the excitement of the party, and I am respectful enough to let the kids on this campus have their fun or misery in peace.

I feel your pain, but I wouldn't give a damn for an OSU fan who didn't also pull for the Big 10 in all games against an outside oppomemt. Michigan versus USC is a perfect example. No way am I rooting for the Shieks. and as for Notre Dame....

I'm sure that no one here feels that way (note use of sarcasm font). I think you will find people here who can be a bit rational, but don't mention ACC, Big East or PAC 10 in the same breath as Big 10.

They think if tOSU was in the SEC that they would have 3 losses or so.
If they're talking about this year they're insane. If they're talking about an average Buckeye team they'd take as many licks as they do in the Big 10. I love the Bucks, but, hey, reality is what it is.

I believe that Florida could win the game, but they're insane if they think the Gators are going "to kill Ohio State." By the same token if Ohio State brings their 'A' game it could be all over by halftime. This team is loaded on both sides of the ball and has an outstanding coaching staff.

Watching both sides, and trying to be as objective as possible, I think tOSU will win by 14 pts or so. FL will score on gimmick plays using the option and maybe a Harvin play - but tOSU will pick them apart. All I can say is - "How did we fare against MI?" Re-watch the Michigan game(s), the Texas game(s) and the 06 Fiesta Bowl. Take away an unprecendented number of OSU fucks ups and all of them are blow outs. BLOW OUTS. This team is something special and to prove it watch how they survive essentially bad games.

Oh, and I show everyone who will watch the TimBuck2 video of Smith and his touchdowns. They are quite impressed and say stuff like "well maybe you have a chance..." And then I say, "Those were just the touchdowns!!!!"
Smith is the reason I'm so absolutely confident that OSU will prevail. He is a difference maker.

ya know i may shed a tear if the first play from the line of scrimmage is us burning florida and reggie nelson on a 70+ yard TD pass to ginn.......if that would happen all that false confidence that the florida players have instilled that they are that much faster will not just be proven wrong.......it will be crushed with authority

Buckeyes, Gators can really fly

SEC teams are known for speed, and Florida coach says 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust days are over at OSU, too.

In June 2004, Cleveland Glenville High School junior Jamario O'Neal finished the state 100-meter final in 10.88 seconds, good for fifth place. But he wasn't nearly the most impressive Tarblooder at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium that day, as senior Ted Ginn Jr. won the 110 high hurdles (13.40) and 200-meter (21.51) state titles.

Meyer tries to follow Donovan's blueprint in BCS

CHAMPIONSHIP OHIO STATE VS. FLORIDA
8 p.m. Jan. 8
Glendale, Ariz.
TV Fox (Channel 8)

In a locker room in Indianapolis, Urban Meyer had an awakening. He had watched Florida's basketball team win the NCAA title in one of the most grueling tournaments in collegiate sports. Meyer, the Gators' football coach, took in the sights, sounds and hugs. He saw a group that genuinely cared for one another. He saw a coach get his players to reach a level they didn't think possible.

Better then?

Ohio State is 12-0 and has the No. 1 college football team in the country so far this season. The Buckeyes finished 10-2 and ranked No. 4 last season. So the 2006 OSU team is better than the 2005 team, right? Not necessarily

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus - Ohio State has been the best college football team in the country all season. Are the Buckeyes, though, really better than they were a year ago?
A lot of comparisons will be made between the 2006 Buckeyes and 2002 national champion Buckeyes before, during and after the Jan. 8 national championship game. The 2005 Buckeyes, who finished 10-2 and ranked No. 4 in the country, belong in that conversation as well if the discussion centers on talent and a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.

Then vs. now

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

The 2005 Ohio State Buckeyes finished up 10-2 and ranked No. 4 in the country after a victory in the Fiesta Bowl.

The 2006 Buckeyes are 12-0 and ranked No. 1 heading into the national championship game. Breaking down Ohio State of 2005 and 2006 by unit shows the two versions of the Buckeyes aren?t far apart.
