Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

What I thought was amusing about Meyer's comments... after conceding you don't stop Smith, you try and contain him, he twice listed off QBs with athletic ability being difference makers. His list? Smith - that is Troy. Alex Smith. Chris Leak. Brady Quinn.

Troy Smith - yes
Alex Smith - Ok, in college, I'll give Meyer a pass on this, though I'm not quick to agree with his assessment. And, Meyer certainly knows Alex Smith a shitload better than me.
Quinn - Athletic? No. Proven "big game player?" Hardly
Leak? Are you fucking kidding me? Is your QBs ego so fragile that you have to include him - not once, but twice - in your discussion of great "how do you stop em" QBs? I mean, I certainly understand why a coach would toss some props to his starting QB. That's reasonable. But come on.... Chris Leak in the same sentence as Troy Smith where "how do you stop him" is the talking point? Please.

Rob Oller
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? Ohio State fans see Troy Smith holding the Heisman Trophy. Florida?s defense sees itself collecting a national championship trophy by holding onto Smith.
The Gators respect Smith but do not fear him. They look forward to playing against him because he supposedly is the best college player in the nation. They want to make him prove it.

OHIO STATE NOTEBOOK
Tressel expects case of jitters
Buckeyes to draw on big-game experience
Friday, December 29, 2006
Ken Gordon
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State?s veteran players will have played in plenty of well-hyped games by the time they kick off against Florida in the national-title game Jan. 8: two showdowns with Texas, the 2006 Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame and, of course, several versions of The Game against Michigan. But that doesn?t immunize the Buckeyes from butterflies, OSU coach Jim Tressel said.

Complete role reversal for OSU fifth-years
Friday, December 29, 2006
By Todd Porter REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

?I describe (2002) as Utopia. There was so much change and so much excitement at the same time with the bowl game. It was a learning experience to soak all that in from those seniors. After that game, I said to my parents, ?I guess I picked the right school.? ?
Fifth-year senior and co-captain Quinn Pitcock on the 2002 Ohio State national title

The Myth of Southern Speed

I know I know, But yesterday I was watching ESPN andof course they were talking about if OSU can match-up with the speed of The Gators. Well I'm so tired of hearing about I thougt I would do some investigating and find out for myself.

I want to make a chart of the players by position that gives thier 40 times and any other info I can get about them. I will post the chart before the game. But problem is I'm having a lot of trouble finding all the info I need. Does anyone know where I can find this info for both teams without having to look-up each player individually? Or do I have to do this the hard way?

I just want to settle score once and for all!

Scarlet glory

Can it really be four years since OSU stunned the No. 1 Miami Hurricanes for a national crown? For the champions, the emotions of victory have never faded.
Friday, December 29, 2006 Bill Livingston
Plain Dealer Columnist
It was not tainted then, and it has nothing small or mean to it now. Not to the Ohio State Buckeyes who played in the 2002 BCS Championship Game.
"How many chances do you get to realize that everything hard was worth it?" said Browns' defensive end Simon Fraser, who was part of a defensive front four for Ohio State that spent the Fiesta Bowl of Jan. 3, 2003, in the Miami Hurricanes' backfield.

Fox Sports

If this hasbeen mentioned already excuse me but I just now happened to see the Fox Sports "December Madness" playoff simulation.

I guess with the help of a computer, they set up brackets and had the top 16 teams in a playoff. They had LSU beating Ohio State in the semi-finals. When I clicked on that game, the description (very detailed) said the BUckeyes drove deep into LSU territory late in the game, and then Beanie came in and coughed up the ball and LSU recovered to clinch the 4 point victory.

Ouch. That's just one more piece of crap that Ohio State has to dispel with a convincing victory on Jan. 8th. And I already know in my heart that Beanie will be a part of that.

In Tressel we Trust, man.

Go Buckeyes!!

Yeah, I thought that was funny as well, you would think by the way Meyer talked that Leak was at the Heisman ceremony and lost by 1 vote....

Part of me understands he's trying to give his QB confidence, but another part of me he needs to be realistic and say "well we have a good defense, hopefully we can keep him contained"

Personally, I wish he would say "Our best strategy is to pray" :gobucks3::gobucks4:

Swamp Gas is full of fools who think Florida is going to route Ohio State.

My brother is among the UF fans who would be "disappointed in a 10 point win"

Gainesville is going to be a sad, sad town on January 9th.

Crap, if they would be disappointed with a 10 point win then the Gatorz fans will be downright suicidal after the Bucks beat them by at least 10... Swamp Gas will melt down quicker than Grassy did 4 years ago.

Expert: No speed limit in BCS title game

Ohio State's Ginn, Florida's Harvin ready to burn turf, showcase speed

On college football?s biggest stage ? the BCS Championship Game ? the No. 1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 2 Florida Gators won?t be motivated by subplots. After all, a national title is at stake.
But if the Jan. 8 game was held at a schoolyard instead of a retractable-roof mega-stadium in Glendale, Ariz., the players might be interested in a subliminal competition.
