Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

I think Florida deserved it so I'm not taking anything away from them... but I don't buy into they were more talented. Just as talented probably? slightly more talented maybe?? However the reason why Florida looked like they knew what was coming was because we did things we did ALL YEAR LONG... I just listened to Around the Horn a bit on ESPN today and they made a good point. 1st was- Florida did some different things they hadn't done all year, where as Ohio State did things they've been doing all year. They said that Florida did a lot they've always done but did just enough new things to throw us off.. I agree 100 percent.

As far as our defense you can go back to the first time I started posting here during the 2004 offseason and you'll see I've personally hated any sort of zone. Especially if we have the talent to match up athlete for athlete. I mean why not just play a cover 1 with everyone else manned up? that way you have someone deep just incase and then the rest you have people manned up. When you're facing a QB who doesn't do well with all out pressure and is prone to mistakes FORCE HIS HAND... I hate it when we let them dictate what they do. I mean I guess its preference but I think if you can match them speed wise then get after them, attack, attack. Because if you do that they're forced into shorter routes, quicker plays, and are forced to think and react instead of knowing where we're going to be...Four things could happen from a more aggressive defense A) Touchdown we get burnt, B)Quick pass/run for short gains, C) Incompletion, D) Forced mistakes.... and IMO that gives a team a 75% percent chance to succeed... If we have the the speed the probability of us getting burnt for a touchdown isn't nearly that great either... So its not like they would score ever down... Besides Gamble getting beat by Lee Evans, and the San Deigo State game I couldn't tell you how many times we've been burnt deep... Not very many.. I'm just pissed that everyone from me, my step dad (never played football), the Media, and to my sister have said that we just sat back and let them do what they wanted..

Many...

Many genuine congratulations to the UF fans. Wow, your team played a hell of a game.

I don't understand why any Ohio State fans would do any trashing today. Yes, we were beaten soundly, but our guys had a hell of a year and played their hearts out last night.

My hat goes off to the departing seniors listed up above. I'm sorry you couldn't go out on a higher note, but you can always be proud of your incredible careers here at OSU.

To the coaching staff, I don't have to tell you that you got beaten really badly. YOU got beaten really badly. But I still believe JT and staff are the best. You can't win them all. Thanks for continuing to be classy, professional and direct our kids so well.

yeah thats a good quote by smith!! Yeah the Media is killing us right now.. one guy still believes that the SEC is just far and above faster without a doubt than any other conference..They probably were the faster team over all, but that was far from the problem.

It's the South and it's about family and which truck you drive... A few years ago I accompanied a former athlete of mine to Duke to watch him compete in the NCAA Track and Field finals. It came down to a dual in the very last event, the 4X400 relay, and the PAC 10 fans and athletes were cheering hard for Stanford and chanting, "PAC 10, PAC 10!" All the SEC fans were rooting for Arkansas and chanting, "SEC, SEC!"

I respect that. You want your conference to be tough. What's the point in winning the conference if it's nothing but a line up of cream puffs? Case in point, Notre Dame winning the commander-in-chief's trophy.

I could not imagine taking pride in another Big Ten team's accomplishments...

i'd congratulate them, but to go to other boards to simply talk smack because of our conference affiliation, no chance.

Just some questions and statements I gotta get off my chest.

1. Why didn't we run the ball more? Ram it down their throats.

2.If Raymond Small is electric like TGJ, why didn't he play?

I'll just stop at that. I am proud to be a buckeye, and proud of our team.
I am just curious.

Another statment.
The Gators didn't beat us with SPEED! They beat us because they wanted it more, played with more heart. If speed was the answer, then we could have matched it. We got speed. Just look at the first play.

Its always easy to second guess what already happened. That's an arm chair quarterback for ya. I feel like it was a hard lesson it the big game of life that is most important. I am SOOO PROUD of Troy and how he carried himself at the end of the game. Classy, period.

Props to the defense for hanging in there and fighting their hardest.

Now with that being said, I say, Congrates to the gators. Enjoy your NC.

Moose

Go Bucks!

As a Miami fan, I couldn't help but feel a small sense of retribution while watching the game... You didn't go as far as handing out premature "Back-to-back-National-title-winner-party!" fliers as Miami did a few years ago, but it definitely seemed to me as if OSU expected to just waltz into Arizona and walk out with the championship.

It's a shame, too, because I was hoping to watch a competitive game.

You guys will get over it. As much as you'd love to win them all, you can't.

Anyway, I don't mean to cause any strife, but the only reason OSU was in the title game was because they started the season at number #1. OSU played a fairly weak schedule, with their two biggest wins coming against UM (UM scored 39 points against OSU's vaunted defense yet were held to just 18 points against USC) and UT (Who barely won their bowl game). I don't know what it is, but could anyone tell me what the win-loss record of the teams OSU played were? It has to be close to .500 if not below it (I could be wrong). It's easy to put up huge numbers when you're playing a bunch of no-name teams.

I highly doubt that OSU could have played UF's schedule and come out undefeated or with just one loss. This is just the bottom line. Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and admit that your team wasn't/isn't as good as you previously thought. There's no shame in it. I'm sure every college football fan has had to do it at one point or another.

OSU met their first real test of the season and folded under pressure. It was a shame, too, as I was actually rooting for OSU (I dislike UF and FSU, for obvious reasons). Good luck with next year!
