Which would have been AWESOME.

The issue that exacerbates Blount's situation is that he talked an awful lot of smack before the game, such as his comment published in SI, "We owe that team an ass-whuppin." I'm sure there are probably a few players from Idaho on the Oregon roster that endured a rough summer back home that increased the tension leading up to the game, so we'll pile that on top of Blount's comments.OregonBuckeye;1670041; said:Well, I'd disagree that Blount's punch wasn't in the heat of the moment. Some douchebag was in his ear and he lost it. I don't see the difference as far as that. The point about her not going into the bleachers and making a bad situation worse, I do agree with.

But quite honestly, if Blount isn't running his trap all summer long, Byron Hout never smacks him on the shoulder pad after the game to remind him, "How about that ass-whuppin?" (or whatever was said). Blount should have seen it coming. His reaction was that of a sore loser. That doesn't excuse Hout, who needs to be the better man there, but Blount was served a little crow in the post game handshake at mid-field and handled it poorly, to the say the least.

Knowing the kind of trash talk that had gone on before the Boise - Oregon game and the tempers that showed up on the field during the game should have led to the game officials and the Oregon/BSU ADs taking steps before, during and after the game to keep the teams separated as much as possible.
2. JMO, but this is the ugly side of sports, the point at which sportsmanship is lost. Leave that crap for TV wrestling. It seems to me that the purpose of intercollegiate anything is to push yourself toward excellence. How that mutates into "and humiliate others along the way," escapes me.
My good friend, Carl Kramer, long time basketball coach at Moeller told me about a recent clinic he attended in which young players were offered a session in talking trash (!) by what I can only assume to be a coach and educator.
I firmly believe that violent language can be a catalyst for situations like Blount and may have been involved in the Griner incident.
It's the first time since the women's tournament began in 1982 that the Tennessee men advanced further than the women in the NCAA tournament.

Russian teams pay way more than WNBA teams.WNBA star Brittney Griner ordered to trial Friday in Russia

Shackled and looking wary, WNBA star Brittney Griner was ordered Monday to stand trial by a court near Moscow on cannabis possession charges, about 4 1/2 months after her arrest at an airport while returning to play for a Russian team.
The Phoenix Mercury center and two-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist also was ordered to remain in custody for the duration of her criminal trial, which was to begin Friday. Griner could face 10 years in prison if convicted on charges of large-scale transportation of drugs. Fewer than 1% of defendants in Russian criminal cases are acquitted, and unlike in the U.S., acquittals can be overturned.
At Monday's closed-door preliminary hearing at the court in the Moscow suburb of Khimki, Griner's detention was extended for another six months, to Dec. 20. Photos obtained by The Associated Press showed the 31-year-old in handcuffs and looking straight ahead, unlike a previous court appearance where she kept her head down and covered with a hood. She declined to answer questions from reporters in English as she was led through the courthouse, according to video shown in Russian media.

If you go to a foreign country don't break their laws, your US constitutional rights do not apply in a foreign country. Their legal/justice system could be totally different than what is in the US. Needless to say this is especially true in countries that aren't exactly friends with the US, like Russia. I'm wondering why she even wanted to play for the Russian team. Considering what is is now going through, whatever they were paying her probably wasn't enough...![]()
