Baylor women's basketball player Brittney Griner

Brittney Griner is the best freshman in the women's game. She athletic and about 6' 8" with an 88-inch wingspan; she has a chance to set the record for both career blocks and dunks, as long as she doesn't miss too many games due to her temper.

She's averaging 19 points, 8.7 boards, and 6 blocks.

Griner was getting mugged, absolutely mugged. Before she throws the punch, she nearly gets thrown to the floor.

Oh absolutely...you have to wonder how much was going on leading up to that incident. I'm sure there was probably a lot of pushing and shoving all night. If you look at the video, it looks like the TT girl stared her down after the first throw down. And then...BAM...the Baylor girl punches her.

Compare this incident to the Oregon RB against Boise. Hmmm...

So, the difference between this and the Blount punch is...?

1 - It was during the game, not after the contest ended

2 - The TTech player threw Griner in a way that could have hurt her arm, and the punch was a reaction to physical contact, rather than a verbal taunt

Both are significant differences to me, I think the punishment is fair.

3 - Griner didn't threaten to go into the stands and start punching TT fans nor required restraint by security and uniformed police, as Blount did.
