I have a 2600K @ 4.8 GHz

13% overlock?? Pretty solid - assuming you're still on air??

560Ti (overclocked to 1GHz core...performs very similar to a 570)

I knew those things had some headroom. But another 150 on the core? Wow. Again very good.

We might need a new thread for this. The inner nerd has begun a rejuvenation.

Yep, everything is on air (my CPU cooler is that Noctua NHD14, which is huge). I have had the 2600k at 5 GHz, but I needed a very high voltage. The temps got over 80C.

That 560Ti is a reference card too. I was surprised, but it just kept on going. I did have to up the volts some, but temps are still rather low with a simple reference design fan.

It's actually fairly silent. If I know the CPU or GPU will be worked hard I need to up the case fan speeds, and then it's slightly audible. Yet overall not too bad. My last computer, on the other hand, was really loud. Especially the GPU.

As for a thread, I doubt it would be a very popular thread.

and more news. EA just opened the Caspian Border map for beta players. It's still password protected, but EA gave out the password..."sexyelevator". I haven't tried it yet, and I am sure there is a very long wait since there are very few servers running the map. Yet at least I will get to check out some vehicles, assuming my patience doesn't run out trying to get in the map.

I'm pretty sure that my system can handle the game, and run it at a fairly high level, but I don't really follow component part numbers closely enough to know where my stuff falls in the hierarchy of system components. So I figured I'd consult the guys that really pay attention to this stuff.

System Specs:
Win 7 64-bit
AMD Phenom 9500 2.2GHz Quad Core Processor
6GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz RAM
Two Nvidia GeForce 460 GTX 768MB
HD has plenty of room.
If one 460 is good enough to run the game, at a high level, then I like to use my second monitor to keep track of temperatures while I'm i-game. If one 460 isn't enough, I'll just have to disable a monitor and make the two GPUs share the load.

Why not keep track of temps in the game itself? Afterburner has an on screen display that can be shown in the corner of the game. You can monitor temps, framerate, fan speed, GPU usage percentage (that can track how well SLI is used), etc.

One 460 is enough to play on high, but two should be able to run on ultra. Although you will probably run into a vram issue with only 768 MB (SLI does not double the vram). So you might have to turn down some things, but most would be on ultra. This is assuming 1080p. For lesser you could do all ultra with AA, and for higher you would probably have to go high and even medium in some cases (that is when the vram limit really kicks in).

If you ever wonder where you stand vs. today's cards, Anandtech has a comparison tool. They don't have 2 768 460's in SLI, but they do have 2 1GB 460's (you will perform very similar). The performance is just like a GTX580, even a little better.

The bitch about that will be running @ Ultra under DX11 with those cards.

Might be Nvidia optimized but its still a generation or so behind. Nothing wrong with that either. Just tossing it out there.

Ok. Hardware thread is needed.

It's pretty much current gen. The GTX560 is simply a higher clocked 460, and 560Ti is based off the 460 board. It's not until you hit the 2xx's do you see a generational issue.

I don't do that, because I didn't know that I could. I'll check into it.

My monitor is only capable of 720p and 1080i.

With that resolution a single 460 will max it out.

Here is the link for afterburner.

http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

Just go to settings, click on the Monitoring tab, and to the list under "Active hardware monitoring graphs." Highlight what you want, and at the bottom of the page you will see "Show in On-Screen Display" with a box next to it. Click the box, and "in OSD" will pop up in the properties area next to the attribute you want displayed. Repeat for everything you want shown. There are more complicated things you can do with the size, color, game detection, shadowing etc. Yet you won't need to bother with that.

It's all based on RivaTuner which is the best GPU monitoring program available. Afterburner simply makes it more user friendly.

Oh, and don't mind the fact it's done by MSI. It works with all brands. I use it for my EVGA card. EVGA has their own program, but Afterburner has voltage tuning built in. You won't need that though.

Aside from a higher shader count - I guess you're kinda right. I forgot there's little architectural difference between the two. Being somewhat general there.

Still 'technically' a generation behind. But I never did ask the question.

What resolution do you guys plan on playing at?

Just played Caspian Border for about 45 minutes.

THAT....WAS....AWESOME!!!!

That is what Battlefield is all about. Huge map. 32 v. 32. Every vehicle under the sun. Screw that Metro map. Now I am really excited about the game again. I can't even put into words what a great experience that was.

It's still buggy, even more so than Metro (makes sense since it's in early testing). Once those are fixed, that map will be incredible.
