McCord's future efforts – and the future performances of the Ohio State offense, for that matter – could directly correlate to the performance of the Buckeyes' offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus, the slobs had a bad, bad day on Saturday and allowed seven quarterback pressures to the Hoosiers' defense.
Just sayin': I would have expected that the 2 returning guys would have graded out the highest; well, that didn't happen.....
Wasn't there a post from a page or two back where they graded the whole OL out to be 2nd to Iowa?

I think that was only pass blocking.
Also, not sure it's surprising that Jackson plays next to Simmons and also graded out the lowest. I'm wondering if he spent too much time worried about Simmons' assignments and not enough on his own.

53.4 is definitely not good. I don't expect these guys to reach PJJ and Dawand levels but they need to be in the 70's at least.

That’s what I’m saying. Hinzman actually played really well for game 1 on the road and having never played center in a real college game.
We should’ve been really good up the middle considering who’s to his right and left. The guards have got to pick it up. If they do that it’ll give us 4 solid OL and then from there we can adjust small things to get Simmons comfortable.
Edit: I have to admit, I really dislike using multiple TEs on the field at the same time in a power formation. It adds nothing for blocking, decent for throwing the ball but I think it just invites more congestion than anything.
I really wish we’d spread the field (even if it’s multiple TEs) with 4 wide. That naturally pulls people out of the box, gives a much cleaner view for the OL to identify assignments, and gives us options.

Settle the fuck down folks. First game is a quagmire. Figuring shit out and making adjustments. Just because we didn't drop 70 on IU on the road in the first game doesn't mean this team has gone to shit. Maybe they should have opened up the entire playbook to placate everyone. Whomever is saying we drop 4 games, fuck off. Maybe we do, but fuck off. It's one game with new players trying to gel. Let's enjoy another Buckeye football season because it's gonna be gone before we know it.

I like 2 TEs in the game, biased, but I agree about the bunched formations. Unless we're on the goal line spread that out so we can get natural running lanes going. The wonderful benefit we have of having athletic tight ends is that those formations are still totally workable in the passing game or running game. Motion out of it if need be and wham the point of attack if you want to but get the Defense spread out some more.

Optimism wants to say maybe it's a good thing they didn't come out and boatrace Indiana, avoided the over confidence from dominating a what should be over powered team. Young team needs a few kicks in the ass early in the season to grow better.

It was Indiana and we have all these skill players back. It’s natural to take a team like that lightly even though they shouldn’t.
I really hope we play Devin a lot on Saturday. In 2021 when Stroud struggled early I wasn’t sure if he was the guy. Then I saw Kyle play vs Akron and though “ok Stroud is for sure the guy”. I think that’d be helpful here as well. We really need to see if Kyle is the guy or not and that’s not going to happen when Devin is throwing to David Adolph or whatever his name is.

It’s no secret that Ohio State’s offensive line didn’t play to expectations Saturday.
The Buckeyes averaged 4.6 yards per carry – almost a full yard below their mark of 5.4 a season ago – and quarterback Kyle McCord came under pressure in the pocket on a number of his dropbacks.
“I felt like they needed to play better,” Ryan Day said at his weekly press conference Tuesday. “In the run game, I think we were only 50 percent efficient overall on first- and second-downs running the ball. That’s not good enough. They certainly did give us some things that we weren’t expecting, but even when they did, I don’t think we handled it as well as we could have. So we’ll be getting back to work this week.”
Josh Fryar, the team’s starting right tackle, was the only member of the front five who graded out as a champion against Indiana.
