Is it me or is the O- line regressing, instead of getting better?

If the answer is yes, it has to come down to coaching. As much as I want Frye to succeed, if the Oline loses a game for us this year, Day shouldn't let this spin on too long like he did with the D. There probably should be a change sooner than later.

Just my opinion. Which doesn't matter much.

Not trying to oversimplify the offense. But they are not a good running team due to their OL being not very good at run blocking. Day is being stubborn and wanting to prove to his doubters that his team is "tough" and can run the ball when needed. Unfortunately they just can't do that. Imo, he should just say screw it and go back to 2018, and let McCord cook and embrace being 1 dimensional. OSU has the best WR in America and arguably the best WR room in the country. Lean on them. Being predictable and running the ball just to run it, is foolish, imo. Especially when many of the runs are to the edge, and defenses are sniffing that out immediately. The blocking and blocking schemes aren't working in the run game. If the team has to throw 40+ times a game than so be it, they don't have the up front talent to be balanced like Day wants. So play to the offenses strengths. Fans won't like watching the RBs not run much, but use them when needed as changes of pace.
I know we like to laugh at scUM and their old school play calling works. But they know their strengths and don't try and deviate. They want to punch you in the mouth and throw 20 times or so. They know their bread and butter and you can't stop it. I think it's time Day say F it, and let McCord sling it
I agree we should just go 2018 on this year. With that said, we need to actually play more WRs if we were going to do that.

This will be unpopular here but hear me out.

I’m really tired of seeing Harrison/Egbuka/Fleming and that’s it. This isn’t a knock on those three but it certainly is on Brian Hartline. We have all these WRs and yet we don’t play them. If I were a recruit that wasn’t Jeremiah Smith or an obvious day 1 kid I would be very reluctant to come here because we will absolutely not play you until games are over (or again unless you’re some sort of freak). Shoot even Egbuka and Harrison didn’t play all year in 2021 because we had 11, 2 and 5 (what a waste they didn’t win a title btw).

So it appears like we are just going to run these three into the ground (again) while a kid sits on the Bench who can run 23 mph, have Xavier who is maybe more versatile than anyone and have 2 freshman who are good enough to play right now.

If we are going to go 2018 that’s great but we won’t get 2018 results throwing to the same 4 kids with one of them being a TE. That 2018 team had Dixon, KJ, Mack, Victor and Terry. Five good wide outs who could create issues. We aren’t willing to play more than 3 and it’s to the point now where I see these kids committing to OSU at WR and I have doubts they’ll even take a snap for OSU before they transfer out.

All three kids playing the snaps at WR have faced serious issues. Marvin x 2 with his ankles, Fleming x 3 with his shoulder and now Egbuka had a shoulder issue last year has a leg injury this year.

Play more kids. Maybe they aren’t the total package but they certainly each can do things that can create issues. For example, just let #9 run a go route 3-4 times a game or a jet sweep or a touch pass. Not saying you have to throw it to him on those fly routes but he’s the fastest on the team. Do something with that speed and yet he’s been on the bench for 3 years.

I absolutely agree about the rotation of WRs. And if there's one knock on Hartline, IMO, its that he doesn't use any type of rotation, yet there's a ton of talent in that room. I'm in agreement that Ballard should be used on a few fly routes per game, similar to how Jameson Williams was used in 2019(?). There should be 3 frosh getting some type of reps: Tate, Inniss and Rogers(Noah). OSU shouldn't have a problem playing upwards 6-7 WRs if they can't fix the run game.

I agree with this. How can you evaluate a kid when you never let them play? Some dudes shine when the lights come on, and others crumble. Regardless of how they look in practice. We have straight up DUDES who never rotate in and never see the field. We have some LBers who play more in the NFL then they did here, and LB ain't what it used to be at tOSU so I find it puzzling. Something, somewhere isn't operating properly. We can't get the run game going, and Hayden is on the bench, as another current example. Give the kid a crack... all you need sometimes is a little sunshine to break the ice.

Edit: you have a future NFL HOF player named Marvin, running out on 3rd down, so our FB can come in as an extra blocker, it's like what the fuck are you doing? Let's play him hurt because we have no other WRs to let him recover fully for the December run. It's fucking tiresome. Spare me the trust the coaches: I saw them play JSN last season and mismanage all the injuries.

I think they keep playing the more physically talented guys instead of the smarter guys, in hopes that the talented guys get smart. I think we've reached a point where that's just clearly not going to happen.

Put people in the game who know their assignments. Point blank. Stop hoping these guys figure out where they're supposed to be and when.

You have elite WRs, elite RBs, an elite TE, an elite QB. Play the combination of guys with the highest floor, even if that means the ceiling is a little lower.

I have not seen anything from the offense that makes me think we'll be any better this year against the skunks. Thankfully, the defense seems to be better, but if we can't run on Maryland, how're we going to do it against the harboogers? We could see the unfathomable and lose to them twice; in The Game and again in the B1G or playoff if we don't sort out the Oline and playcalling. For all Day's whining about toughness, we're not seeing it on the field offensively.

PRESS COVERAGE: OHIO STATE NEEDS BETTER EXECUTION IN RUN GAME, OFFENSIVE LINE STARTERS UNLIKELY TO CHANGE, EMEKA EGBUKA SHOULDN’T BE OUT LONG

Five games into the regular season, Ohio State is still searching for answers in the run game.

After averaging less than two yards per carry against Maryland, Ryan Day said Tuesday he believes Ohio State has the personnel to have a successful run game, but better execution is needed, including from a coaching perspective.

While some have called for changes to Ohio State’s offensive line personnel, Day said there’s a gap between Ohio State's starters on the offensive line and its backups on that unit, leaving even bigger questions about the Buckeyes’ depth up front given the substandard performance by the starting five so far.

Just sayin': That's how bad the OL recruiting has been the last few years.....:mad1:

I’m going to put words in his mouth because the internet is fine like that we are all going to die anyway:

Day: “bro if you think the starters are bad the backups are fucking awful you think you have seen shit and you haven’t.”

So reassuring that Montgomery doesn’t look an upgrade over Simmons. Hopefully he does in like 11 months. But I understand a freshman at LT is super likely to look bad so I won’t argue it too much

But if there’s that much of a gap how is there a positive outlook for next season give how awful the execution looks now? That’s fucked up.

Bingo.

Tired of it. Meanwhile Michigan plays everyone but their long snapper vs TTUN. You damn well know if that’s us our starters are in until 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter at a minimum.

So what does that do when there’s turnover every year? We get the whole “well this is their first year playing” BS and Michigan meanwhile is able to put in players who have played a ton of football.

There would be no harm in playing Kenyatta for 2-3 plays early in that Maryland game while playing the other 3 starters on the DL. Maybe have a little faith in these kids to not blow the game for you.

Constantly chasing our tail when it comes to breaking in new players every year when there’s really no need for it.
